MEMBER- Part-time & On-Call Permanent Part-Time, Beginning-2026 (

Starting at $25.00) Applications are now being taken. Position open for a permanent part-time road department crew member, with possibility for advancement to permanent full-time with benefits. Job begins immediately and may last up to 1500 hours annually. You will likely be required to work first, second or third shift.

What You Will Do:

-Perform daily duties as a road department crew member which will include operation of heavy machinery during both summer and winter months with an emphasis on snow and ice removal operations on township roads on an as needed, non-overtime, basis.-Serve under the direction and supervision of the Vermilion Township Roads Department Foreman and work safely to make the township roads and ditches safe for everyone.

Position Description:

Operates basic equipment & performs general roadway maintenance duties which vary by season and weather conditions on roadways & rights-of-way, performs snow & ice control & related maintenance duties by operation of snowplow with spreader, dispensing equipment, dump truck with attachments. Perform duties associated with roadside mowing and ditch maintenance. Perform duties associated with road surface repair and maintenance. Performs minor repairs & maintenance on equipment (e.g., sharpens; sands; paints; refuels; lubricates; checks tires for wear & pressure; replaces light bulbs; washes & cleans trucks & equipment to prevent rusting); changes tailgates & snowplow blades; conducts pre-trip inspections of equipment. Performs miscellaneous labor & bookkeeping tasks; operates two-way radio/base station; telephones crews for emergencies; cleans offices & garage; keeps daily records & logs (e.g., fuel sheets, material check sheets); responds to general inquiries from public, assists stranded motorists (e.g., telephones for needed assistance); performs general labor & maintenance functions at garage; loads & unloads; arranges stock; moves equipment. Qualifications 1) Formal education in arithmetic that includes decimals, percentages & fractions; ability to read, write & speak common English vocabulary; 3 months training or experience in operation of basic snowplow equipment, commercial grade mowing equipment, and earth moving equipment. 2) Applicants must have valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License without air brake restriction at the appropriate level pursuant to the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above. 3) Some consideration will be given to candidates currently working towards securing CDL licensure or who have a willingness to obtain CDL licensure within a set time period, with or without the financial assistance of the township. 4) Applicants should be at least twenty-one (21) years of age. Supplemental Information

• This position is an eligible overtime position.
• This permanent part-time position does not offer fringe benefits, health insurance, paid sick leave, vacation and is filled hourly at a rate beginning at $25.00 per hour on an as needed basis up to twenty-four (24) hours weekly. Between five (5) four (4) hour days and three (3) eight (8) hour days as needed week to week.
• The final applicants accepted for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. Medical marijuana is prohibited as a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment, per section 3719.01 & 3719.41 of Ohio revised code.
