Job Description

Position Title:
Pharmacy Technician Reports to: In Office Dispensary (IOD)
Supervisor Job Status:
Full-Time FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt Positions Supervised:
None Position Summary:
Work closely with Pharmacists and other In Office Dispensary Staff to prepare prescriptions and help customers. Receive stock orders from pharmaceutical companies and review order requests from Physicians to determine new prescriptions or changes to existing customer prescriptions. May also be responsible for helping customers update their contact or insurance information on file.

  • Making sure that codes are assigned correctly and sequenced appropriately as per government and insurance regulations
  • Fills prescription items, as permitted by the State Board of Pharmacy, packaging medications for dispensing and for delivery, meeting the accuracy and productivity standards of the pharmacy
  • Labels products appropriately, including cautionary or auxiliary labels
  • Participates in the periodic inventory of the pharmacy
  • May check in drugs and supplies, stock shelves and remove out-of-date items from the inventory
  • Prepares medications including emulsions, liquids, powders and ointments, which may include non-sterile compounding
  • Communicates with internal and external customers in a pleasant and professional manner
  • May process returned medications from the facility for credit or destruction
  • Assists in the training of new employees
  • Services facility-based medication dispensing machines (e.g., RxNow)
  • Performs other tasks as assigned
Education and Experience:
  • A High School diploma or equivalent
  • Pharmacy Technician Licensing from the appropriate state, depending on the location of the IOD
  • Intermediate proficiency with computer and Windows PC applications including ability to navigate and learn new and complex computer system applications
  • Experience in pharmacy setting and with medical terminology
  • Pharmacy / prescription data entry experience
  • Compounding experience

From $20.37 per hour
