Job Description

Matrix Providers is hiring a Pharmacy Technician to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, GA.
Employment Status:
Full-Time Compensation:
This is an hourly position, paid bi-weekly. $16.49 to $20.52/hr + H&W $4.93/hr
Schedule:
Services are provided between the hours of 0700-1800 Monday - Friday. Hours are not to exceed forty (40) hours per week. Variations and lunch hour will be coordinated with the Government employee designee on duty.

Degree:
Certificate.
Education:
Graduate from a formal pharmacy technician program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or a formal pharmacy technician program (i.e., technical, hospital, or retail-based program) or a formal medical services training program of the United States Military.
Experience:
One year of experience within the last two years as a pharmacy technician or 6-months pharmacy technician student clinical rotation experience within the past 2 years.
Certification:
Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, American Heart Association, or American Red Cross Healthcare Provider Course.
Licensure:
HCW must maintain a full, valid, unrestricted, and current license.
Pharmacy Technician Core Job Duties:
Perform a full range of pharmacy technician procedures. Perform pharmaceutical dispensing duties including filling new outpatient prescriptions, refilling prescriptions, and entering orders into databases. Perform information consultation duties including supporting new and refill prescriptions, supporting patient requests, supporting physician's requests, monitoring for drug interactions, and reporting adverse drug reactions. Perform quality improvement duties including performing drug storage inspection, reviewing expired supplies, and producing error and workload reports and documentation. Perform supply process duties including placing new orders, stocking/restocking shelves, inventory maintenance, producing not in stock reports. Perform administrative duties. Admit patients to the computer database. Input prescriptions and unit dose orders. Check patients' computerized drug profiles and follow pharmacy policy/operating instructions when discrepancies are found. Print labels and drug filling lists. Restock dispensing equipment, shelves and patient care pharmacy storage locations/carts. Correctly file completed prescriptions. Properly destroy any material with sensitive patient information as prescribed by instructions in the workplace. Compound and Dispense Pharmaceuticals. Recognize typical occurrences such as color, chemical, or consistency changes, and report problems to a pharmacist. Interpret prescriptions and formulas for appropriateness, to include content, dosage, completeness, compatibility, and conformity with established guidelines. Confer with prescriber or patient on questions to ensure proper drug, dose, dosage form, and instructions are made available to the patient. Select, weigh, measure, and combine drugs and chemicals according to accepted methods. Prepare, package, and label prescriptions and drug orders as ordered by proper authority. Instruct patients in medication use according to Manufacture, labels and store preparations reference literature. Dispense medications and supplies to patients and clinics. Confer with facility staff on drug storage and expiration. Serves as conduit between Medical Logistics and Pharmacy to resolve daily order issues as well as any outstanding backorders or long-term pharmaceutical issues that may cause a disruption to patient care. Learn medical logistics functions to support pharmaceutical operations within the Medical Facility. Coordinate and work with medical logistics to order pharmaceuticals, review and resolve pharmacy backorders, and make medication substitutions when needed. Become proficient with Defense Medical Logistics Services System (DMLSS). Learn to receive pharmaceuticals from the procurement source and then be able to issue items to pharmacy staff. Safeguard pharmaceutical items. Rotate stock to ensure freshness and potency. Remove from use and ensure proper disposal of expired, suspended, and other unsuitable drugs. Initiate defective drug product complaints. Maintain strict control over issuing and receiving controlled substances. Maintain accurate and proper records. Prepare all documentation/records to meet or exceed established standards of the MTF, to include, but not limited to, timeliness, accuracy, content and signature.
