Job Title:
Phlebotomist Job Description This phlebotomist role focuses on drawing patients' blood and performing specimen processing in a busy doctor's office setting. You will collect and receive biological specimens, accurately enter data into the laboratory computer system, prepare samples for analytical testing, and ensure specimens reach the correct analytical area. You will support both the pre-analytical and post-analytical phases of testing, perform specified analytical tests as assigned, and consistently follow the organization's Code of Conduct. Responsibilities + Draw blood from patients of all ages, with a strong emphasis on pediatric patients and difficult venipunctures. + Collect and receive biological specimens in the department and ensure they are properly labeled and handled. + Accurately enter patient and specimen information into the laboratory computer system in a timely manner. + Prepare specimens for analytical testing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and appropriate packaging as required. + Distribute specimens to the proper analytical areas according to established protocols and priorities. + Support pre-analytical processes such as verifying patient identity, confirming test orders, and ensuring correct specimen collection procedures. + Support post-analytical processes, including proper storage, documentation, and routing of results as needed. + Perform specified analytical testing as assigned, following all laboratory procedures and quality standards. + Provide compassionate, professional patient care, maintaining a calm and reassuring presence, especially with pediatric patients and those who are anxious about blood draws. + Collaborate closely with medical assistants and other clinical staff in the doctor's office to coordinate patient flow and specimen collection. + Serve as the closer in a team of four phlebotomists, helping ensure all end-of-day tasks, specimen processing, and documentation are complete. + Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with infection control and safety guidelines. + Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and the Code of Conduct in daily work. + Demonstrate strong teamwork, reliability, and communication with colleagues and office staff throughout each shift. Essential Skills + At least 2-3 years of recent phlebotomy experience. + Proven ability to perform difficult blood draws, particularly with pediatric patients. + Strong phlebotomy skills, including venipuncture and capillary collection, with an excellent and consistent "stick." + Hands-on experience with specimen collection and specimen processing in a clinical or laboratory setting. + Ability to accurately enter and manage patient and specimen data in a laboratory computer system. + Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish. + Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team in a clinical environment. + High school diploma or GED. + Commitment to providing respectful, patient-centered care during blood draws and specimen collection. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience working in a doctor's office or outpatient clinic environment. + Previous experience working with pediatric patients and managing difficult pediatric blood draws. + Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work closely with medical assistants and other clinical staff. + Reliability and flexibility to serve as the closing phlebotomist on a team of four. + Interest in professional growth within a large laboratory organization that offers a career ladder and internal promotion opportunities. + Eligibility to progress to higher-level phlebotomy roles after demonstrated performance and tenure, such as advancement to Phlebotomy Technician II with associated pay increase. Work Environment This position is based inside a doctor's office located in Mesa, Arizona, where you will draw the physician's patients and work closely with medical assistants and other clinical staff. The schedule is Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and you will serve as the closer on a team of four phlebotomists. The environment is fast-paced and patient-focused, with a steady volume of pediatric and adult patients. You will use standard phlebotomy equipment and laboratory systems to collect, process, and route specimens. The setting is professional and clinical, with appropriate medical attire required. The broader organization operates a large network of clinics and hospital laboratories across Arizona, offering significant opportunities for growth, internal promotion, and advancement along a defined career ladder for phlebotomy professionals. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mesa, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.36/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
