Job Title:
Phlebotomist Job Description This role offers an opportunity for an experienced phlebotomist to work in a physician office setting, drawing blood from patients and performing specimen processing to support high-quality laboratory testing. You will handle both pre- and post-analytical aspects of testing, ensure accurate data entry, and collaborate closely with medical assistants and other clinical staff. The position is ideal for a skilled, compassionate professional who enjoys working with cancer patients and complex draws while contributing to a supportive, growth-oriented organization. Responsibilities + Draw blood from patients in a physician office setting, including cancer patients and those with difficult veins, using safe and effective venipuncture techniques. + Collect and receive biological specimens into the department, ensuring proper identification, labeling, and handling according to established procedures. + Accurately enter patient and specimen information into the laboratory computer system and verify data for completeness and correctness. + Prepare specimens for analytical testing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and appropriate storage or transport to designated analytical areas. + Distribute specimens to the proper analytical departments or testing areas in a timely and organized manner. + Perform specified analytical testing as assigned, following established protocols and quality standards. + Manage pre-analytical tasks such as verifying orders, preparing collection materials, and educating patients on collection procedures when needed. + Handle post-analytical tasks, including proper disposal of materials, documentation of completed collections, and communication of any issues or delays to appropriate staff. + Follow all guidelines outlined in the organization's Code of Conduct, including safety, confidentiality, and ethical standards. + Work closely with medical assistants and other clinical staff to coordinate patient flow and ensure a positive patient experience. + Provide compassionate, patient-centered care, especially for cancer patients and those who may be anxious or in distress. + Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including phlebotomy stations and specimen processing areas. + Participate as a cooperative team member, assisting colleagues as needed to meet departmental goals and patient needs. Essential Skills + At least 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience, including experience with difficult blood draws. + Demonstrated proficiency in blood collection techniques, including venipuncture and specimen handling. + Experience working with cancer patients or other medically complex patients requiring gentle, skilled blood draws. + Hands-on experience with specimen processing, including receiving, labeling, preparing, and routing samples. + Ability to accurately enter and verify patient and specimen information in a computer system. + High school diploma or GED. + Strong team orientation and ability to collaborate effectively with medical assistants and other clinical staff. + Commitment to following established protocols, safety procedures, and a formal Code of Conduct. + Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of specimen collection and processing. + Ability to provide compassionate, respectful patient care in a clinical setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Phlebotomy experience in a cancer center or oncology setting. + Demonstrated success with difficult draws and anxious patients. + Interest in professional growth within a structured career ladder for phlebotomy roles. + Motivation to advance to higher-level phlebotomy positions as opportunities arise. + Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support positive patient and team interactions. Work Environment This position is based in a physician office setting within a cancer center located at Paradise Valley AZ 85253, operating Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You will work as an on-site phlebotomist, drawing the physician's patients and collaborating closely with medical assistants and other clinic staff. The environment involves regular interaction with cancer patients and individuals requiring complex or difficult blood draws, requiring both technical skill and empathy. The role includes use of standard phlebotomy and laboratory equipment, as well as a computer system for specimen entry and tracking. Professional clinical attire of black or burgundy scrubs as well as adhering to the dress code and professionalism policies is expected in this role. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Scottsdale, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.36/hr.
