Job Description

Job Title:
Phlebotomist II Job Description The primary role of a Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations within the laboratory setting. Responsibilities Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data. Decontaminate and update patient information as required. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection processes. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles. Fully understand and execute physicians' orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order. Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are correct against the script. Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperature. Follow specific procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens for transport. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to provide information. Essential Skills Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. Minimum of 6 months' experience in performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or
GED. 2-4
years of experience in the field. Additional Skills & Qualifications Strong customer service skills. Ability to troubleshoot and provide training. Experience with specimen collection and handling. Work Environment The work environment is a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting where adherence to safety and procedural protocols is essential. Employees are expected to wear appropriate laboratory attire. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Ilion, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
