Job Description

PROVISIONAL VACANCY
Physical Therapist BOCES This will be a
PROVISIONAL
civil service appointment. Candidate will be required to take the civil service exam when it is scheduled in the future. Permanent appointment will be dependent upon candidate's exam score.
SALARY:
$65,000 FT @ 37.5 hrs./wk. This is a 10 month position that follows the school calendar.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Licensed and currently registered by the NYS Education Department as an Physical Therapist AND One year of clinical experience
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
License must be maintained throughout the tenure of appointment . Certain assignments made to employees in this class will require reasonable access to transportation to meet field work requirements made in the ordinary course of business in a timely and efficient manner . Operation of county - owned vehicles requires employees to possess a current valid New York State Motor Vehicle operator's license .
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This is a professional position involving responsibility for evaluating, planning and providing physical therapy treatment to patients in accordance with written prescription or referral from a physician who provides medical direction . The Physical Therap ist is responsible to the Director of Patient Services . Supervision may be exercised over the work of Physical Therapy Assistants, Home Health Aides and clerical employees assigned to the service . Does related work as required .
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of physical therapy; Good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of apparatus and equipment used in physical therapy; Good knowledge of the pathological conditions and socio - economic factors affecting a patient's disabilities; Working knowledge of community resources applicable to physical therapy; Ability to plan and supervise the work or others; Ability to get along well with others; Physical condit ion commensurate with the demands of the posi tion .
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
(Illustrative Only) Evaluates the degree of function and disability of patients unless contraindicated by his/herprofessional judgment or a doctor's advice; Designs and perfor ms physical therapy procedures upon the written order or referral of a licensed physician; Instructs and supervises Physical therapy Assistants and Home Health Aides in t he performance of Physical therapy related tasks in the home; Participates with other personnel in the formulation of patients' total care plans; Assists in the development of physical therapy policies and procedures; Confers periodically with a supervisor and physicians regarding all facets of patient care and related act ivities; Assists in the development of, instructs and participates in t he agency in - service education program; Records on patients; charts all physical therapy evaluations, agency required documents, re - evaluations, progress notes, consultation and discharge summaries; May maintain program records including but not limited to the service budget and statistical reports of the frequency and types of treatment and number of patients treated; Teaches professionally appropr iate material to patients, families, caregivers, parent classes, Home Healt h Aide classes and community groups; Participates in Quality Improvement Activities and multidisciplinary conferences of the organization; May participate in disaster activities as trained and assigned; Performs related work as required .
