Job Description
The Community Services Office will now accept applications, cover letters and resumes' for the following position: Teacher - Early Head Start
I. MAJOR OBJECTIVES
Demonstrate good teaching practices, maintain the security and safety of the children, and implement an educational program that is developmentally appropriate and congruent with the Head Start program's requirements, philosophy, and goalsIII. EDUCATION RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintain and promote a safe and healthy environment for young children: a. Ensure the children are not left unattended at any time b. Maintain indoor and outdoor play areas in such a way that children's safety can be easily monitored c. Learn and follow regulations and procedures related to operating a Head Start classroom d. Assist with required safety drills e. Check to be sure equipment and supplies are safe, clean, durable, adequate, and varied f. Follow appropriate discipline guidelines to include offering positive reinforcement and redirection and setting realistic expectations with clear consistent limits g. Supervise children to ensure a safe learning environment, including the ability to monitor and respond to events going on at all times h. Respond in a timely and appropriate manner to children who are very active and may need restraint or redirection in order to ensure their safety or the safety of others i. Respond appropriately, both mentally and physically, to emergency or crisis situations j. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of meeting both the needs of the group and meeting an individual child's needs k. Feed Children as required l. Identify and report child abuse and neglect m. Notify appropriate staff when a child has a change in health 2.Implement classroom management:
a. Create appropriate daily lesson plans and a fun, interesting, and helpful environment b. Create appropriate individualized plans for each child c. Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of parent and community involvement in the classroom setting d. Observe/Document children's development throughout the year e. Understand/Follow all attendance, health check, and family contact procedures f. Encourage each child and family to participate regularly and notify appropriate staff when a child will be absent or arrives late g. Conduct Home Visits and Parent-Teacher conferences 3. Protect program integrity and client privacy by keeping any and all program information gained through employment at C.S.O., Inc. Head Start absolutely confidential during and after this employment 4. Maintain ongoing documentation and site accountability including, but not limited to: Lesson Plans Case Management Referrals Home Visit/Reports Health Team Referrals Parent/Teacher Conference Reports Accident Reports Absentee referrals Child Observations/Assessments In-Kind Forms Individualized Plans/Goals 5. Establish effective working relationships with children, parents, members of the community, and staff of the Head Start Program as you implement and/or participate in the following: a. Assist with recruitment and enrollment of Head Start children b. Work in collaboration with other team members in transition activities c. Provide orientation for parents as children enter the program d. Help to make parents feel welcome and engaged in the overall program e. Build trust and respect so parents will feel comfortable in sharing information on sensitive issues and have confidence their privacy will be honored f. Conduct parent/teacher conferences and home visits g. Engage parents in the lesson plans, goals, home tasks, and activities h. Generate monthly In-Kind by recruiting parent/volunteer daily participation i. Facilitate monthly parent meetings j. Develop relationships with children which are consistent and supportive 6. Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning by participating in Head Start staff development training, attending assigned workshops, Understanding and following the C.S.O. Head Start Policies and Procedures Manual and maintaining proper training documentation. 7. All other duties as assignedIV. QUALIFICATIONS
1.Required:
a. CDA or higher b. Have or be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification c. Cleared Criminal Record check and Arkansas Child Maltreatment check d. Cleared FBI Record check, including fingerprints, if lived out of the state in past 6 years e. Ability to pass a TB screening and a Drug test f. Ability to work a varied schedule between the hours of 7:30 and 5:30 g. Ability to daily kneel, stoop, bend, and sit on the floor to attend to children's needs h. Ability to lift up to a 40 pound child 2.Preferred:
a. Computer and organizational/managerial skills b. Knowledge of resources in the community c. Experience working with young children d. Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills Equal Opportunity Employer.Job Type:
