Job Description

Job Description The Plating Process Technician is responsible for executing and monitoring plating line processes to ensure stable, complaint, and repeatable plating operations. This role performs chemical analysis, bath maintenance, equipment operation, process troubleshooting, and environmental controls in accordance with established procedures. The Plating Process Technician plays a critical role in quality performance, process stability, environmental compliance, and safety within an automotive plating operation. Roles and Responsibilities Process Control & Chemistry
  • Perform routine chemical analysis of all plating baths and enter results into Truchem software.
  • Conduct and interpret Hull Cell panels for all plating baths; make chemical additions based on visual analysis and standard work.
  • Add chemicals to plating baths in accordance with wet lab analysis and written work instructions.
  • Perform manual temperature checks at scheduled intervals and verify process control limits.
  • Analyze plating process performance and identify trends or deviations. Plating Line Operations
  • Execute plating line processes and procedures to maintain stable operation.
  • Perform rack technician processes including bar changes, rack inspections, and rack adjustments.
  • Utilize and maintain accuracy within the rack database.
  • Understand and operate Aucos and Truchem software systems.
  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot recovery equipment and associated support systems.
  • Assist with process adjustments and countermeasures in collaboration with the Plating Supervisor. Preventive Maintenance & Equipment Support
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities including: o Draining and cleaning plating tanks o Filter changes o Anode replenishment o Carbon treatments
  • Identify equipment or machine malfunctions and report issues promptly to the Plating Supervisor and Maintenance team. Environmental & Wastewater Compliance
  • Operate the wastewater treatment system in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with discharge permit requirements and environmental regulations.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of wastewater system operation and inspections.
  • Observe all federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Documentation & Reporting
  • Complete all required documentation including: o Beginning‑of‑shift and end‑of‑shift reports o Checklists o Process logs
  • Maintain accurate records related to chemistry adjustments, maintenance activities, and process conditions. Safety, Training & Continuous Improvement
  • Observe and comply with all company safety requirements at all times.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators as required for extended periods.
  • Report safety issues immediately to the Plating Supervisor.
  • Maintain 5S standards in personal work areas and shared spaces.
  • Support training of other plating technicians as assigned.
  • Participate in scheduled training, safety meetings, and educational programs.
  • Work overtime as required to cover call‑ins, vacations, or process needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision. Skill and Education Requirements Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical or chemical‑process coursework preferred.
  • Previous experience in plating, chemical processing, wastewater treatment, or manufacturing environments preferred. Technical Skills
  • Ability to perform chemical analysis and interpret lab results.
  • Understanding of plating bath chemistry and process control.
  • Ability to interpret Hull Cell results and make appropriate chemical additions.
  • Experience with process control software preferred (Truchem, Aucos, or similar).
  • Mechanical aptitude for equipment operation and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to follow detailed written work instructions and procedures. General Requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and process discipline.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to escalate issues appropriately.
  • Ability to wear a respirator for extended periods. Physical Demands
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and working with hands.
  • Ability to work in wet and humid environments.
  • Ability to work at heights and near moving equipment.
  • Occasional lifting of equipment or chemical containers. Work Environment
  • Moderately noisy industrial environment.
  • Frequent exposure to: o Wet and humid conditions o Indoor and outdoor weather conditions o Airborne particles and fumes o Toxic or caustic chemicals o Proximity to moving mechanical parts o Electrical systems
  • Required use of PPE including gloves, face protection, chemical protection, and respirators.
  • Compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations is mandatory. Authority
  • Authority to perform chemical adjustments and process actions per approved procedures.
  • Authority to stop or escalate operations when safety, quality, or environmental compliance is at risk.
  • Authority to report equipment, process, or safety issues to the Plating Supervisor and Maintenance.
  • Authority to support and train other plating technicians within assigned scope.
  • Authority to recommend process improvements or corrective actions.
Pay:
$18.00 - $22.00 per hour
