Under the direction of an assigned supervisor and/or an assigned lead, performs journey-level work in the installation and maintenance of plumbing fixtures, and systems.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a journey-level skilled maintenance class in the plumbing trade. The class of Plumber is distinguished from the class of Irrigation Technician in that the latter performs skilled and semiskilled duties in the maintenance, improvement, and establishment of irrigation systems. The class of Plumber is distinguished from the class of Grounds Maintenance Worker in that the latter performs a variety of unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled grounds maintenance duties on school grounds, tracks, athletic fields, and playing grounds.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Install, maintain, repair, regulate, replace, and test plumbing lines, fixtures, fittings and equipment using a variety of hand and power tools used in the plumbing and maintenance trades in accordance with applicable building and safety code requirements. Purchase parts and equipment for the installation, maintenance, repair, service, regulation, replacement, and testing of plumbing lines, fixtures, fittings and equipment according to established procedures. Diagnose malfunctions and determine repair needs of plumbing lines, fixtures, fittings and equipment using a variety of hand and power tools. Maintain routine records related to work performed and materials used in the installation and maintenance of plumbing lines, fixtures, fittings and equipment. Plan, organize and lay out work using blueprints, drawings and sketches. Respond to emergency plumbing problems and make needed repairs using a variety of hand and power tools used in the plumbing and maintenance trades. Clean and clear sewer mains, drains, toilets, urinals, sinks, grease traps in accordance with applicable building and safety code requirements. Communicate with administrators, staff, or other skilled maintenance personnel concerning plumbing issues, regarding work orders, project requirements and updates. Perform a variety of skilled maintenance duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of District buildings and facilities as assigned by management and/or a lead. May provide work direction and guidance to other employees or temporary workers on special projects in own specialty area as assigned. Preform other related duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school.Experience:

Work Environment:

The examination may consist of any combination of a(n): training and experience (T&E) evaluation, written knowledge test, structured panel interview, situational judgement interview, or other type of exam of fitness for duty. All parts of the examination process are job related. Protest of any part of the exam process must be in writing and submitted to the Personnel Director no later than five (5) working days from the date you participated in the exam. Candidates who are successful in all screening and testing stages will be placed on an eligibility list. Typically, an eligibility list for a classification expires after one (1) year. Candidates on the expired eligibility list are no longer considered for positions within the class. Eligibility lists may be extended beyond one year or expire sooner than one year. Eligibility lists may be merged, in which case candidate ranks may change.SELECTION PROCESS
Candidates on the eligibility list will be called in rank order to participate in final selection interviews with the hiring manager until three ranks of candidates have accepted the invitation to interview. Ranks may include ties so more than three candidates may be called to interview for one vacancy. All new regular classified employees shall be paid in accordance with the salary range established for the class to which assigned. Initial placement will normally be the first step of the salary range. However, a new employee may receive advanced step placement with an approval from the Personnel Commission. Requests for advanced step must be submitted in writing to the Personnel Commission office before the employee's first day of work. Approval will be based on the following criteria: a. Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class. b. Additional education at the college level when related to the position, beyond the established educational requirements for entry into the class. c.
