Job Title:
Plumber Mechanic Job Description This role directs the installation of plumbing systems, equipment, and fixtures on a variety of construction projects. You will plan, lay out, participate in, and supervise plumbing work both on job sites and in the shop, working with a high degree of independence on maintenance, repair, and construction assignments. You will coordinate with field leads, use construction management software to receive work orders, and ensure all installations and modifications comply with specifications and building codes. Responsibilities Plan and lay out plumbing systems for construction, retrofit, addition, and remodeling projects using blueprints, rough plans, sketches, drawings, and existing components. Direct, supervise, and participate in the installation of plumbing systems, equipment, and fixtures on job sites and in the shop. Lead and coordinate helpers and junior mechanics to run storm and sanitary lines and ensure work progresses safely and efficiently. Install and work with cast iron, PVC, and related plumbing materials using appropriate hand tools and trade techniques. Set up, install, and maintain water and temporary water lines to support construction and renovation activities. Analyze defects and malfunctions in plumbing equipment and systems to determine necessary repairs and corrective actions. Lay out, mark, and prepare work areas for plumbing installations, ensuring accurate measurements and alignment. Use construction software and written job requests to receive, prioritize, and document maintenance, repair, and construction assignments. Perform maintenance and repair tasks on plumbing systems as requested through software, written job orders, and emergency calls. Ensure all work complies with applicable specifications, building codes, and industry standards throughout construction and remodeling projects. Collaborate with leads and other trades on site to coordinate work sequences and resolve technical or scheduling issues. Respond to feedback from users and project stakeholders, making adjustments as needed during and after project completion. Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, organized condition and follow all safety procedures on job sites. Essential Skills Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the plumbing trade. Ability to analyze defects in plumbing equipment and systems and determine appropriate repairs. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and to lay out work from prints, rough plans, sketches, drawings, and broken parts. Proficiency in installing plumbing systems, including storm and sanitary lines, using cast iron, PVC, and related materials. Skill in using hand tools and trade-specific equipment for plumbing installation and repair. Ability to lay out and mark plumbing runs accurately for new installations and modifications. Experience working with water and temporary water lines on construction projects. Capability to work with considerable independence while following general direction and supervision from on-site leads. Strong understanding of construction and building code requirements related to plumbing systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications Cast iron plumbing experience is a significant plus. Experience running crews or working with helpers and junior mechanics on construction projects. Experience in plumbing work on retrofit, addition, pharmaceutical, and new construction projects. Comfort working on low- to mid-rise projects, typically five stories or less. Familiarity with construction management or work order software to receive and track assignments. Why Work Here? Work assignments for maintenance and repair come through construction software, written job requests, and emergency calls, and you will operate under general direction from on-site leads. The environment is typical of active construction sites, requiring adherence to safety procedures, appropriate work attire, and readiness to work in varying site conditions and stages of building completion. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hampton, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $37.00/hr.
