Job Description

This professional civilian position involves collecting, managing, analyzing, and responding to calls for service, as well as other data, identifying crime trends, patterns, series, hot spots, and other crime-related issues. This position disseminates this information to the department through reports and, if necessary, assists in developing strategies to address the identified issues. This position provides analytical and operational support to law enforcement personnel by monitoring, collecting, and analyzing information in real time. Work is performed with allowance for independent initiative, judgment, and latitude for selecting methods and procedures.
  • Prepares and submits weekly/monthly detailed statistical reports.
  • Attends training.
  • Disseminates crime analysis/intelligence reports.
  • Compiles and maintains statistics.
  • Researches and analyzes criminal activity.
  • Responds to requests for statistical reports from citizens, businesses, and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Prepares pin maps of crimes.
  • Uses Geographical Information Systems to analyze information.
  • Prepares charts, graphs, timelines, detailed analytical reports, and maps to illustrate crime patterns/trends and statistical findings using various sources and documents.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision.
  • Identifies similarities among juvenile-related offenses, revealing commonalities, patterns, and characteristics of current crime problems.
  • Analyzes the frequencies, geographic and chronological factors, victims, suspect and vehicle descriptors, methods of operation, and physical evidence in determining trends and patterns of related criminal activity.
  • Evaluates and analyzes criminal intelligence information to predict the capabilities, intentions, and vulnerabilities of organized groups involved in criminal activity.
  • Provides investigative, analytical assistance as needed.
  • Gathers, tracks, monitors, and contributes to data systems monitoring gun violence or gun-related crimes.
  • Develops interpretation, selection, assembly, and organization methods of significant data to perform analysis.
  • Completes concise reports of conclusions and recommend appropriate solutions based on analysis.
  • Disseminates information to the proper components of the department and maintains liaison with affected components for evaluation and feedback.
  • Evaluates, prepares, and distributes intelligence bulletins as governed by statute and department policy.
  • Research and studies current literature and keeps the department informed of new concepts, equipment, and programs applicable to statistical tracking in law enforcement.
  • Works with analysts from nearby law enforcement jurisdictions, as well as state and federal partners.
  • Prepares Risk Protection Order Workups.
  • Prepare photo packs as needed.
  • Updates gang files.
  • Works in Real Time Information Center to provide research and investigative support during calls for service, monitors radio traffic, crime center cameras, and other intelligence platforms to support law enforcement officers with active investigations.
  • Communicates via a two-way radio distinctly and clearly.
  • May be required to participate in and/or facilitate training to support departmental or City initiatives and requirements.
  • May be required to work overtime or alternate hours and subject to callouts as necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
  • Operates a department motor vehicle during official business.
  • Performs related tasks as required

  • Ability to learn uniform Crime reporting.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other City employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Adobe Pro.
Education and Experience:

Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid Florida operator's (driver) license.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid telephone number.
  • Must pass a background screening and investigation.
  • May be required to pass an elevated background check provided by the City of Bartow Police Department upon hire.
  • Completion of FDLE Crime Analyst Training I and II, or ability to obtain such certification within two years.

  • The job requires visual stamina and acuity to review alpha/numeric data and to spend extended periods looking at a computer screen; it regularly requires talking or hearing.
