SUMMARY:
Patrols district property to protect all students, personnel, and visitors from physical harm and prevent property loss due to theft or vandalism. Enforces all laws including municipal ordinances, county ordinances, and state laws. Works independently.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED Associates Degree preferred
EXPERIENCE
Background in law enforcement or related work experience Three (3) years of full time paid employment as a Peace Officer (Required)
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Texas Peace Officer License Issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Valid Texas Driver's License
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to use district vehicles, two-way radio, handcuffs, alarm systems, fire extinguishers, flashlights, and/or security equipment Ability to record information Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
General knowledge of criminal investigation, police report writing, and criminal laws Training and ability to subdue offenders, including use of firearms and handcuffs Bondable as required by Texas Education Code §37.081(h) Ability to pass required physical, psychiatric, and drug tests Ability to work well with youth and adults
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Law Enforcement Patrol assigned campus (es) and routes, walking or driving, within district jurisdiction ; Respond to all calls from campuses concerning crisis situations and reports of crime; Investigate all criminal offenses that occur within the district's jurisdiction; Question witness and suspects and takes statements; Arrest perpetrators, file appropriate charges, and ensure placement in jail or juvenile detention centers for law violations, as necessary; Process juveniles and complete necessary paperwork; Serve felony, misdemeanor and mental commitment warrants; Investigate traffic accidents that occur on school district property and respond to accidents involving school district vehicles off school district property; Gather and label evidence, takes photographs and fingerprints, guard & transport prisoners and testify in court; Write effective legal incident and offense reports. Consultation Work cooperatively with other agencies to share information and provide other assistance. Safety Help provide traffic control at athletic events, school closings or openings, or at any other time; Assist the Transportation Department with problems at bus stop areas and/or chronic disruptions on school buses, as requested; Provide protection to or escort district personnel, as needed; Defuse potentially hostile situations; Operate all equipment, including firearms, according to established safety procedures; Conduct presentations for students and staff regarding safety and security; May address and work with community groups to promote good public relations and to inform citizens of police activities and crime prevention. Administration Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and documents required, including affidavits for arrest, incident reports. Other Must be familiar with Donna ISD policy and procedures; Must follow the "Educators' Code of Ethics" Must maintain confidentiality; Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance; Participate in meetings and special events as assigned; Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments; Subject to reassignment as determined by the Chief of Police or Superintendent; Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or immediate supervisor.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, students, parents, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, diagram or schedule form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required. While performing the duties of this job, strenuous walking, standing, and climbing is required. Specific hearing and visual requirements are included. Ability to operate a motor vehicle is required. The employee must be able to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. This employee may be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions, including violent and armed confrontations. Moderate to heavy lifting and carrying is required. The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.
