POSITION
Pre-Kindergarten Teacher
REPORTS TO
School Principal
SALARY GRADE
State Salary Schedule plus local supplement
NATURE OF WORK
The Pre-K teacher will exhibit comprehensive knowledge of typical as well as atypical patterns of child development and age appropriate practices. The teacher will create and adapt environments that are safe, nurturing and cater to best practices in order to meet child care regulations guidelines. Additionally, Pre-K teachers will use authentic, ongoing assessments of children's abilities to plan and implement age appropriate activities that are built upon each child's unique strengths. Pre-K Teachers are expected to foster relationships with families in order to support children's development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Additional duties may be assigned. Models, implements and assesses strategies related to learning, social, emotional and behavioral needs to enhance educational programming for all learners Follows district guidelines, child care regulations and best practices to ensure a safe and age appropriate environment that promotes learning Integrates research into the design of best practice Consults with Early Learning Coordinator, Pre-K Teachers and Site Administrators regarding best practices for classroom and building educational programs Submits required documents and forms by an established timeline Implements the Pre-K curriculum with fidelity Completes ongoing assessments and collect artifacts Implements a schedule that meets the required child care regulations Maintains records in accordance with established rules, regulations and ethical standards. Follows policies, procedures, standards and rules in accordance with federal and state laws, which includes, but is not limited to, developing and maintaining proper and adequate records and documentation
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Occasionally the employee will lift up to 50 lbs. such as to lift files, paper, school supplies, books, etc.

Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments or directions from superiors.
REASONING ABILITY
Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
LANGUAGE ABILITY
Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, articles, proposals, manuals, legislation, graphs, charts, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, charts, graphs, statistical analysis, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style. Requires the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control and confidence. Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently through a variety of technical and professional languages including psychometric, statistical and educational research terminology.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee may encounter, and include a noise level that is usually moderate to loud. The employee continuously interacts with the public and staff.
EVALUATION
Performance in this position will be evaluated regularly by the supervisor in accordance with Board Policy.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
All lead teachers must hold, or be working toward a North Carolina (NC) birth through kindergarten (BK) or Preschool Add-on Standard Professional II licensures. Teachers working toward the required education and licensure shall hold a minimum of a BA/BS degree and the following requirements: NC Initial Provisional Lateral Entry BK License, or A North Carolina K-6 license and a provisional Preschool Add-on license, or Another North Carolina or other state's license and an NC Provisional B-K Add-on license, or A BA/BS degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field, and be eligible for a NC Initial Provisional Lateral Entry B-K License.
NOTE:
Related fields are Human Development and Family Studies, Psychology, Special Education, Human Growth and Development.
NORTH CAROLINA LAW REQUIRES THAT A FEDERAL CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK BE CONDUCTED ON ALL PERSONS WHO PROVIDE CHILD CARE IN A LICENSED OR REGULATED CHILD CARE/PRESCHOOL FACILITY
