Job Description

Gillespie Precast, LLC is a family-owned precast concrete manufacturing company looking for a qualified person to join our growing team in Chestertown, MD. The Quality Control Technician is responsible for ensuring all precast concrete products meet Company standards, ACI and NPCA requirements, project requirements and customer expectations. This role requires a strong ability to read, interpret, and apply construction drawings, reinforcement details, and tolerances while verifying product quality throughout production and prior to shipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Inspections and Testing o Perform pre-pour and post-pour inspections of forms, rebar, embeds and finished concrete products. o Verify wet concrete testing for slump, air content, unit weight, and strength per ACI standards. o Conduct raw material testing as required o Interpret and review shop drawings, structural drawings, specifications, and project details to ensure accurate production of precast concrete elements. Documentation and Reporting. o Accurately complete QC reports, inspections sheets, test records, and non-conformance reports. o Maintain proper documentation for NPCA audits. o Communicate quality issues to production supervisors and recommend correction actions. o Evaluate, document, and inspect all necessary concrete repairs. Report causes of defect and provide root cause analysis. o Perform spot checks of final inspections of products, loading and tie-down procedures. Production Support o Work directly with production teams to resolve quality issues. o Perform and document spot-checks of concrete transport regarding placement, consolidation and finishing. o Monitor curing and stripping procedures to ensure quality and safe handling. Compliance and Standards o Follow all State DOT Standards and Specifications, ACI and ASTM Standards and NPCA procedures and specifications. o Interact with State Highway, Department of Transportation personnel, and any visiting inspection agencies to ensure proper procedures are followed. o Participate in Safety and Quality meetings. o Obtain any technical certifications required or directed by Quality Control Manager, ensuring these certifications are current in the areas of ACI, NPCA, and DOT requirements. o Verify compliance with project tolerances, PCI, ACI, ASTM standards, and customer requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
General:
o High school diploma or GED required. o Experience in the construction or concrete industry, preferred. o
NPCA PQS
Level 1 certification (or willingness to obtain). o Ability to achieve the American Concrete Institute Field Technician Level 1 Certification within one year of hire.
Communications Skills:
o Ability to communicate effectively with team members and management.
Physical Requirements:
Required to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, kneel, bend, climb or sit for extended periods of time, and a minimum of a full 8-hour shift. Ability to climb in and around concrete structures. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Working Environment:
Work is performed in a moderate noise level atmosphere working near moving mechanical parts. Work is performed on a concrete floor subject to ambient temperatures, at time can be subjected to adverse weather conditions.
