  • Full-time Position Overview We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and ServSafe-certified Chef to manage all kitchen operations and provide nutritious meals for our preschool students.
This role is crucial in supporting the health and well-being of our students while adhering to strict USDA guidelines and maintaining an impeccably clean kitchen environment. The Chef will work independently and collaboratively, utilizing a dedicated kitchen assistant to execute daily tasks.
Hours:
Full-time, 6:30 AM
  • 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday Key ResponsibilitiesFood Service and Preparation Plan, prepare, and serve daily breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack for all students and staff, following established menus and dietary guidelines.
Ensure all food preparation and handling practices meet or exceed ServSafe standards and local health codes. Manage meal preparation efficiently, ensuring meals are ready and served on schedule. Inventory, Ordering, and Receiving Place regular food and supply orders with vendors, including Gordon Food Service, Sam's Club, and Walmart. Receive and inspect all deliveries, verifying order accuracy and checking food quality (e.g., confirming no leaking liquids, dented cans, and appropriate temperatures for temperature-controlled items). Maintain organized and efficient storage areas, strictly adhering to FIFO (First In, First Out) principles for all stock. Stock and rotate all perishable and non-perishable goods immediately upon delivery. Compliance and Record-Keeping Accurately complete USDA production reports in real-time, recording all products and quantities used for each meal service. Manage USDA count sheets by closely coordinating with teaching staff to ensure all meals served are properly accounted for and recorded. Monitor and follow up with teaching staff regarding the accurate completion of USDA attendance sheets daily, which are critical for meal documentation. Kitchen Sanitation and Maintenance Maintain the highest level of cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen at all times. Daily tasks include washing all dishes, cleaning and sanitizing food preparation surfaces, and sweeping and mopping floors. Perform routine deep cleaning, including cleaning out the cooler and freezer. Manage trash removal and routine dusting of non-food contact surfaces. Ensure the kitchen is always "guest ready" for spontaneous tours and inspections. Teamwork and Supervision Collaborate effectively with the dedicated Kitchen Assistant, delegating tasks and ensuring all daily operations are completed efficiently. Work cooperatively with teaching staff and administrative personnel. Qualifications Must possess a current, valid ServSafe certification. Proven experience in high-volume food preparation, preferably in a school, childcare, or institutional setting. Strong understanding of USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulations and reporting requirements (or ability to quickly master them). Demonstrated ability to manage inventory, place orders, and maintain strict FIFO protocols. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in record-keeping. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively within a strict daily schedule. Physically able to stand for extended periods, lift up to 40 pounds, and perform repetitive motions associated with kitchen work.
