NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB
The Preschool Social Worker supports the early childhood program by fostering strong partnerships between families, school staff, and community resources. This role focuses on identifying and addressing family needs, promoting parent engagement, and ensuring access to services that support the overall well-being and development of young children. This position requires collaboration across multiple school settings and may involve direct interaction with families and students in various environments.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Preschool Social Worker shall: Collaborate with preschool instructional staff, administrators, instructional coaches, and support personnel to implement and support the district's family services program. Serve as a member of the Early Childhood Advisory Council and the Preschool Intervention and Referral Team (PIRT), contributing to program development and student support planning. Partner with school-based resource staff to conduct outreach to families, assess individual family needs, and advocate for appropriate supports and services. Coordinate and connect families with community-based social services and resources as appropriate. Provide ongoing follow-up with families, including reviewing and monitoring child and family needs when necessary. Work with district personnel to design, implement, and evaluate parent involvement programs based on identified needs and parent survey data. Provide counseling and social-emotional support to preschool-aged students, as appropriate. Assist with planning and facilitating family engagement events and activities. Support transition planning for young children and families within early childhood programs (e.g., entry into preschool, transition to kindergarten). Support families in understanding child development, including areas such as nutrition, safety, and strategies to support learning at home.
