Immediately Job Description Preschool Assistant Little Glad Early Childhood Center Position Summary The Preschool Assistant supports the Lead Preschool Teacher in creating and maintaining a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 3-5. Under the direction of the Lead Teacher and the Little Glad Early Childhood Principal, the Preschool Assistant helps implement daily classroom activities that support children's academic, social, emotional, and physical development. The Preschool Assistant works collaboratively with teaching staff to assist with instruction, classroom management, supervision of students, and maintaining a positive and engaging classroom environment. The district reserves the right to interview and select a candidate prior to the posted closing date in order to ensure the timely filling of this position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The duties listed below are representative of the responsibilities of this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Instructional Support Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate lessons and activities aligned with the center's preschool curriculum for children ages 3-5. Support children during instructional activities, play-based learning, and small group work. Reinforce early literacy, numeracy, problem-solving, and social interaction skills through classroom activities. Assist with preparation and organization of classroom materials and learning centers. Provide support to individual students or small groups as directed by the Lead Teacher. Classroom Environment and Student Supervision Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment that supports learning and exploration. Supervise children in the classroom, playground, and other program areas to ensure their safety and well-being. Support classroom routines and transitions throughout the day. Help children develop positive social skills and relationships with peers and adults. Model appropriate behavior and positive interactions with students. Student Support Provide additional support for children with varying developmental needs. Assist in implementing accommodations and services for children with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or other support plans as directed by the Lead Teacher. Observe and share relevant student information with the Lead Teacher to support monitoring of student progress. Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities Work collaboratively with the Lead Teacher, Early Childhood Principal, and other staff to support program goals. Maintain positive and professional relationships with families, staff, and the community. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required in-service training. Follow all center policies, procedures, and state licensing regulations. Maintain confidentiality regarding student and family information. Supervisory Responsibilities This position does not have formal supervisory responsibilities but may assist in supporting classroom volunteers under the direction of the Lead Teacher. Qualifications Education and Experience Candidates must meet state licensing requirements for early childhood staff and possess one of the following: Coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field, OR A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or willingness to obtain, OR Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that meets state licensing requirements. Preferred qualifications: Experience working with preschool-aged children. Experience in a licensed childcare or early childhood program. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices. Ability to work effectively with young children in a classroom setting. Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively with teaching staff. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to maintain a positive, patient, and supportive attitude with children. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to: Sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach. Move actively throughout the classroom and playground environment. Lift and/or move up to 30 pounds occasionally. Maintain visual supervision of children at all times to ensure safety. Work Environment The work environment includes classroom and playground settings typical of an early childhood program. The employee may experience moderate noise levels and frequent interaction with children, families, and staff.
