PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
Creates a physical, social, and positive environment that meets the individual needs of each child. Arranges the physical environment by selecting the number and types of interest/learning centers, and choosing equipment and materials for each area. Creates a well-balanced daily classroom schedule. Creates a safe and healthy environment for staff and young children. Demonstrates methods for creating a positive social and emotional climate. Posts emergency information, weekly menu, fire and tornado drill records in the classroom. Works closely with he instructional aide and other preschool staff to plan together effectively. Designs and/or selects developmentally appropriate activities related to the curriculum areas of language, mathematics, science, social studies, health, safety, nutrition, art, music, drama, and movement. Creates, selects, adapts, and evaluates materials appropriate for young children with varying ages, abilities and needs. Presents developmentally appropriate activities in an integrated format. Provides individual and group learning activities through a variety of formats, including play, environment routines, transitions and systematic instructional situations in all areas of development. Demonstrates and uses principles of guidance techniques, behavior support and classroom management skills appropriate for young children. Plans and implements a parent/family involvement program including at least home visits, classroom participation, and parent/teacher conference. Provides a variety of educational activities for parents to enhance their role as the principal influence on the child's education and development. Assists Family Resource Center in planning and implementing parent/family activities held after school hours and attends these events (potlucks, picnics, center committee). Translates and utilized DIAL 3 assessment data for child's individual objectives. Maintains support and on-going communication with supervisors. Designs and evaluates processes and strategies that support transitions between programs and/or settings. Identifies strengths, resources, and needs of children and collaborates with or makes referral to other professionals as necessary. Supervises and evaluates para-professionals. Supervises volunteers. Acts as a key member of the admissions and release committee in developing IEP's for the children with handicaps. Works in cooperation with the Mental Health Consultant for the purpose of information sharing and problem planning. Works cooperatively with staff in updating and monitoring social service, parent involvement, and health records. Develops a working partnership with Preschool Coordinator and FRC where communication is shared concerning health, disability, parent involvement, and social service concerns. Keeps a positive attitude toward all aspects of the program and sees ways to improve areas. Adheres to professional ethics and standards. Participates in opportunities for professional development, including participation in professional organizations and application of professional literature, attends staff meetings and all local training sessions. Establishes and fosters good working relationships within the program. Maintains anecdotal records (minimum of one time per month per child). Submits neat, accurate, and punctual program records. Ensures confidentiality of records and information. Lesson plans are complete and up-to-date. Participates in self-evaluation activities. Provide instruction aligned with Program of Studies, Core Content and National Standards. Performs related duties and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Preschool Coordinator, Elementary Instructional Supervisor, Principal or Superintendent.
