Principal Engineering Aide (Ellery Landfill) Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities - Ellery, NY Full-Time | Excellent Benefits The Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities is accepting applications to fill one (1) full-time Principal Engineering Aide position at the Ellery Landfill. This position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional seeking a hands-on role in public infrastructure and environmental operations. The Principal Engineering Aide performs moderately difficult sub-professional engineering work involving project planning, field operations, construction support, surveying, and technical analysis. This role carries a higher degree of responsibility and independence than a Senior Engineering Aide and is actively involved in the day-to-day implementation and supervision of engineering-related projects. Work is performed under the general supervision of higher-level engineering staff, with direct oversight of lower-level Engineering Aides. This position is being filled on a provisional basis from approved applications received. The selected candidate will be required to take a future competitive Civil Service examination for permanent appointment. Key Responsibilities Plan and design engineering projects of moderate size and complexity Determine materials, quantities, and specifications required for construction projects Assist higher-level engineering staff with larger and more complex engineering projects Prepare cost estimates, material estimates, and project calculations Plan, organize, and supervise field survey activities Assist in preparing bid specifications and construction documentation Calculate rights-of-way and related measurements Support inspection of construction and infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with plans and specifications Analyze roadway and traffic-related data, including speed recommendations for curves, intersections, and roadway segments, and assist with sign placement layouts Supervise and provide direction to lower-level Engineering Aides Assist with engineering documentation, reports, and project records Perform related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and meet one of the following requirements:

Option A:

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college in a field closely related to

Engineering Technology OR Option B:

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college in a field closely related to Engineering Technology AND four (4) years of experience in sub-professional civil engineering work

OR Option C:

Six (6) years of experience in sub-professional engineering work Preferred Skills Ideal candidates will demonstrate: Knowledge of engineering principles, surveying practices, and construction methods Experience with project planning, cost estimating, and technical documentation Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and technical drawings Strong mathematical and analytical skills Leadership experience supervising staff or coordinating field operations Familiarity with civil engineering and public infrastructure projects Ability to work both in office and outdoor field environments Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

Pay:

$26.85 - $34.93 per hour
