The School Psychologist is a member of the Adult and Prison Education Resources Workgroup providing services to the Prison Education Program sites located at Level V prisons and Level IV Work-Release sites statewide. The school psychologist works with Prison Education staff to support students with special needs in meeting their educational goals and preparing for a successful re-entry. The School Psychologist assesses, develops reports, participates in meetings, maintains records, and interacts with Prison Education and DOC staff as needed. This 12-month position will provide services in a hybrid manner combining in-person and virtual formats.Major Responsibilities:
Review referrals for individual evaluation to determine appropriate interventions; assess students when an individual evaluation is deemed appropriate; ensure that information is disseminated to the appropriate persons. Administer appropriate tests for each student based on federal, state and local guidelines and the specific needs of the students. Participate in IEP meetings by providing suggested instructional interventions curriculum, modifications and student accommodations. Discuss the student's overall performance with designated Prison Education staff, observe students in classroom, write observation reports, choose and administer the appropriate test. Write the school psychologist's portion of the Evaluation Summary Report and see that other appraisal reports are incorporated into it before the Educational Diagnostician completes required documents. Review each referral prior to assessment to make certain the student's records and information are complete. Participate in ESR meetings to assist in determination of disability eligibility. Observe all federal timelines for assessments and for written assessment reports. Participate in professional development presented by the Exceptional Children's Resource Workgroup. Present professional development sessions on best practices in delivery of special education and related services to Prison Education staff. Maintain current knowledge of critical legal issues in the provision of special education services. Maintain current knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures regarding IDEA services. Employ problem solving strategies, foster and promote collegiality and team building. Consult with personnel from outside agencies when needed. Work with Prison Education Leadership to review and revise protocols and policies as needed. Use Infinite Campus System to record and track special education services.Essential Qualifications and Skills Education:
Be eligible for or possess a Delaware Department of Education School Psychologist Standard Certificate as noted in 1583 School Psychologist (delaware.gov).Experience:
Minimum of 3 years full time experience as a school psychologist on a high school level preferred.Skills:
Excellent written and oral communication, facilitation, and organizational skills as well as excellent listening and synthesizing skills. Strong interpersonal, collaborative, relationship-building and negotiating skills. Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures. Performs responsibilities with minimal supervision. Capable of setting priorities and working in collaboration with others. Capable of working under pressure. Be able to proactively problem-solve with professionalism. Discretion and confidentiality are essential. Understanding of educational equity and diversity as it applies in Adult Education. Proficiency in the use of technology, e.g. MS Office Applications. Demonstrate sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic groups.Salary:
Salary Range:
$96,018- $146,187 annually.
