Job Description

Are you passionate about working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment? Are you driven by a strong safety and quality culture? You may be our next Process Engineer located at our Bethune, SC location. Plans and implements individually the operational development of assigned sections of manufacturing. Solves daily operational manufacturing issues. Explains and influences others to improve the manufacturing process and operations. Main Accountabilities This position is responsible to the area/line that they are assigned to including the employees, management, customers, and suppliers.
Some Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and implement manufacturing processes, methods, and procedures to ensure efficient production at competitive cost and high quality. Establish and sustain robust process control systems for critical-to-quality (CTQ) variables in alignment with Suominen Quality standards. Provide hands-on technical support to shop floor operations, including machining, programming, fabrication, finishing, testing, and assembly. Troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues related to equipment, tooling, materials, and product design; perform root cause analysis and implement sustainable solutions. Lead and drive continuous improvement initiatives (sPlus program), focusing on cost reduction, productivity, and process optimization. Evaluate new and existing product designs for manufacturability, cost efficiency, and performance using value engineering principles. Plan and execute projects involving new processes, equipment, and tooling; recommend and implement improvements to enhance operational performance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Quality, R&D, Operations, and Sales/Marketing) to support product development, plant utilization, and business objectives. Support supplier quality initiatives and ensure alignment with plant and corporate requirements. Define, track, and improve key performance measures (KPMs) to drive data-based decision-making and operational excellence. Develop and maintain systems for accurate process data collection, monitoring, and analysis of product and process variability. Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards. Actively participate in Suominen Best Practice networks, sharing knowledge and leveraging global expertise. Formal Education and Work Experience Bachelor's degree required. We welcome candidates without prior experience in this area. Technical Skills and Personal Attributes Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field required. Proven analytical capability, including the ability to interpret complex data and identify trends. Understanding of continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent). Advanced knowledge of problem-solving methodologies, including root cause analysis techniques. Strong organizational and systems-thinking capabilities. Working knowledge of safety, health, and environmental regulations and standards. Strong ownership and accountability for delivering results. Structured problem-solving and root cause analysis mindset. Ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority. Data-driven decision-making with a bias for action. Resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Effective communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
