Job Summary The Production Manager plays a critical hands‑on leadership role in driving safe, efficient, and high‑quality production within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. This role leads frontline teams, sets the tone for a strong safety culture, and ensures daily operations align with business priorities for quality, delivery, and cost. As a working leader, you will coach and develop employees, solve problems in real time, and continuously improve processes to support operational excellence. What You Will Do Supervise and direct day‑to‑day production operations, including leading daily production meetings, assigning work, coordinating across teams, monitoring performance, and ensuring all safety and production targets are met. Ensure a safe work environment by actively monitoring floor activities, reinforcing safety standards, and addressing issues promptly to maintain compliance with all safety requirements. Develop, maintain, and update operating procedures, safety documentation, and quality standards to ensure processes and products consistently meet company and regulatory requirements. Track, analyze, and report on production performance, issues, and metrics; communicate production status to the team and recommend improvements to safety, productivity, and quality. Train and onboard new employees, manage staffing schedules, address work conflicts, and support employee development to build a high‑performing, collaborative team. Foster a culture of open communication, accountability, and continuous improvement across production operations. Act as a working, hands‑on manager when needed while actively developing team capability, supporting business objectives, and driving operational excellence. Lead with safety as the top priority under the PQVC model (People, Quality, Velocity, Cost), ensuring decisions and actions consistently protect employees while driving quality output, on‑time delivery, and cost effectiveness. Degree Requirement Bachelor's degree preferred; significant leadership experience and proven success in manufacturing or production operations may substitute for formal education
What You Will Have Problem Solving:
Working knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations. Identifies and documents specific problems and resolution alternatives. Examines a specific problem and understands the perspective of each involved stakeholder. Develops alternative techniques for assessing accuracy and relevance of information. Helps to analyze risks and benefits of alternative approaches and obtain decision on resolution. Uses fact-finding techniques and diagnostic tools to identify problems.
Performance Management:
Working knowledge of successful performance management techniques; ability to apply organization's performance management system, practices, and tools to developing and improving individual, team, and organizational performance. Identifies opportunities to enhance performance, e.g., practice assignments, training, shadowing. Ensures performance goals, checkpoints, and feedback focus on behaviors. Provides documented input to formal performance review conducted by manager. Observes individual performance and provides fair and objective feedback. Uses formal and informal rewards and recognition programs for employees.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking:
Working knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment. Applies an assigned technique for critical thinking in a decision-making process. Identifies, obtains, and organizes relevant data and ideas. Participates in documenting data, ideas, players, stakeholders, and processes. Recognizes, clarifies, and prioritizes concerns. Assists in assessing risks, benefits and consideration of alternatives.
Planning and Organizing:
Working knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way. Raises awareness of potential bottlenecks and disruptions to the schedule. Breaks tasks into manageable steps that can be incorporated into a personal work plan. Escalates concerns over competing or conflicting priorities. Monitors progress continuously and adjusts tactics for handling situations on a case by case basis. Creates action plans that ensure the accomplishment of responsibilities.
Effective Communications:
Working knowledge and understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Delivers helpful feedback that focuses on behaviors without offending the recipient. Listens to feedback without defensiveness and uses it for own communication effectiveness. Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work. Avoids technical jargon when inappropriate. Looks for and considers non-verbal cues from individuals and groups. Additional Requirements Prior experience working in a manufacturing or production environment Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and the consistent application of safety standards and practices Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, make sound decisions quickly, and adapt in a fast‑paced environment Experience leading or supervising a team in any capacity, including task coordination, direction, or mentorship Proficiency with Microsoft tools (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams) for communication, reporting, and documentation What Will Put You Ahead Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field Experience with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies Rigging and crane operation certification or hands‑on operator training experience Electrical wiring, installation, or inspection experience, including relevant certifications Previous experience leading a team with direct reports, including performance management and development responsibilities Experience using Workday or similar people management platforms for hiring, performance management, timekeeping, or employee data Experience using SAP or similar enterprise systems to support manufacturing, production planning, inventory, or operational reporting Additional Information This is an onsite position based in the Griffin, GA facility Work schedules are aligned to business and operational needs and may include varying shifts, extended hours, weekends, or holidays as required to support operations Travel up to 5% is possible Relocation is not available for this position Visa sponsorship is not available for this position Physical Requirements The ability to occasionally lift parts up to 35 lbs. individually or up to 70 lbs. with a team lift The ability to bend, reach, and squat while performing tasks The ability to wear required personal protective equipment for assigned tasks The ability to work in an environment with frequently changing temperatures The ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods while performing tasks We are committed to ensuring a supportive and accommodating work environment for all employees. Summary Pay Range:
$89,210.00 - $133,810.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
