Job Description

Overview Responsible for leading daily production operations across the CNC wood routing and assembly areas at our Dorset, Vermont facility. Supervises a team of approximately 20 hourly associates, reports to the General Manager, and drives safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance through lean manufacturing principles and standard costing discipline. Duties Supervise, coach, and develop a team of approximately 20 production associates across CNC wood router operations and related assembly cells. Plan and execute daily production schedules to meet customer demand, quality standards, and cost targets in partnership with Planning and Scheduling. Lead lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, kaizen, standard work, value stream mapping, visual management, and TPM) to eliminate waste and improve flow. Own standard cost performance at the work center level: monitor labor, scrap, yield, and overhead variances; partner with Finance to investigate root causes and implement corrective actions. Oversee CNC wood router operations including program support, tooling, setups, preventive maintenance, and first-article quality to maximize OEE and minimize downtime. Enforce safety protocols, lead daily safety huddles, and drive a zero-incident culture; ensure compliance with OSHA, lockout/tagout, and company policies. Maintain product quality through in-process inspection, SPC methods, and rapid response to nonconformances; support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions. Train and cross-train team members on equipment, procedures, and quality standards; maintain skills matrices and training records.
Manage team performance:
set clear expectations, conduct reviews, address performance issues promptly and fairly, and recognize strong contributions. Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Materials to resolve production issues and support new product introductions. Track and report daily KPIs (safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity); lead shift-change handoffs and tier meetings. Support capital planning by identifying and justifying equipment, tooling, and process improvements that strengthen standard cost and throughput. Knowledge & Experience 5+ years of progressive manufacturing experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role, preferably in wood products, cabinetry, furniture, or discrete manufacturing. Demonstrated experience leading lean initiatives in a production environment. Working knowledge of standard costing systems and manufacturing variance analysis. Hands-on experience with CNC wood routers; programming or operator familiarity strongly preferred. Skills & Abilities Strong leadership, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills; ability to build trust across a diverse shop floor. Ability to read engineering drawings, BOMs, and routings. Proficient with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable using data to drive decisions. Excellent verbal and written communication. Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage competing priorities. Education & Training Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Pay:
$65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
