Job Description
Based in the greater Pittsburgh area, we are a leading manufacturer of steam clean generators, tube bundles, packaged water heaters, pressure vessels, and tanks for the plumbing and heating systems and industrial processes. We have been in business for over 90 years and have established ourselves as a reputable and reliable manufacturer.
Position OverviewThe Production Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating day-to-day manufacturing operations to deliver safe, high-quality product on time and within cost targets. This role oversees shop floor teams, enforces safety and quality standards (GMP/ISO/OSHA), drives continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, 5S and Kaizen practices, and manages production scheduling, capacity planning, inventory and MRP/ERP systems (e.g., SAP). The supervisor troubleshoots equipment and process issues, implements standard work and SOPs, and ensures efficient machine setup, changeover and maintenance to meet production goals.
Key ResponsibilitiesSupervise and mentor production staff across assigned shifts; hire, train, evaluate and coach operators and technicians to achieve performance and safety targets.
Plan, schedule and execute production runs; manage shift scheduling, capacity planning and resource allocation to meet customer demand and delivery dates.
Use MRP/ERP systems (e.g., SAP) to coordinate materials planning, manage Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy, release work orders and control inventory levels.
Enforce quality control standards and inspection processes, apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) and root cause analysis to resolve non-conformances and reduce variability.
Lead Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives (5S, Kaizen, TPM, assembly line balancing) to increase throughput, reduce waste and improve OEE.Ensure compliance with
Oversee machine setup, changeover, tooling and calibration activities for CNC machines, PLC-controlled equipment, conveyors, robotics and other industrial automation systems.
Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities with maintenance teams and external service providers to minimize downtime.
Implement and maintain shop floor control systems, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and visual controls to ensure consistent production practices.
Manage packaging, labeling and final inspection processes to ensure finished goods meet specifications and customer requirements.
Collaborate with engineering (CAD/AutoCAD), quality and procurement teams to support process improvements, tooling changes and new product introductions.
Monitor production KPIs, prepare performance reports and communicate progress and issues to production management and stakeholders.
Control production costs, assist with budget management and participate in supplier/vendor management for spare parts and tooling.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement, safety awareness and cross-functional teamwork across the manufacturing floor.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience; or an associate degree with significant hands-on manufacturing experience.5+ years of manufacturing experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role in a production environment.
Demonstrated experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies (Green/Black Belt preferred), 5S and Kaizen continuous improvement practices.
Proficient with MRP/ERP systems (experience with SAP preferred), Bill of Materials (BOM) management and materials planning.
Strong knowledge of quality systems including
Experience with CNC machine operation, PLCs, robotics, industrial automation, conveyor systems, tooling, setup and changeover processes.
Solid troubleshooting, root cause analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to implement durable corrective actions.
Familiarity with TPM, preventive maintenance practices, calibration procedures and maintenance coordination.
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety management and the ability to develop and enforce safe work procedures.
Hands-on experience with shop floor control, SOP development, assembly line balancing and packaging operations.
Comfortable using AutoCAD/CAD tools, Microsoft Office (Excel for data analysis) and production reporting systems.
Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to manage teams, drive change and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
Willingness to work rotating shifts and respond to production issues outside normal hours as required.
Relevant certifications preferred: Six Sigma (Green/Black/Lean), OSHA, Certified Quality or Maintenance credentials.
