Position Description The firm is seeking an experienced civil engineer (7+ years) with a strong background in site / land development to join the team in either the Naperville, IL or Chicago, IL office . This role is suited for a motivated professional who can operate independently, contribute to project leadership, and mentor junior staff when needed. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and effective communication skills. Responsibilities include the preparation and oversight of project designs and construction documentation using current AutoCAD and Civil 3D standards. Project types include, but are not limited to: Commercial site development Residential site development Grading and earthwork design Drainage and stormwater management systems Erosion and sediment control design Other complex civil and site‑related engineering projects Key Responsibilities Lead the development of site design layouts, grading plans, and construction documents Coordinate internally with project teams and externally with clients, agencies, and consultants Review and oversee work prepared by junior engineers and designers Apply sound engineering judgment to solve complex site and regulatory challenges Support project schedules, budgets, and deliverable quality standards Assist with construction coordination and respond to field‑related design questions Basic Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in civil site / land development design Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D, including grading, drainage, and plan production Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities independently Preferred Qualifications Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) Experience mentoring or supervising junior engineers and technical staff Experience with construction observation, coordination with survey teams, and responding to contractor inquiries Familiarity with local permitting, agency coordination, and development standards Benefits The firm offers a supportive, employee‑focused work environment that values technical excellence, leadership growth, and work‑life balance.
