Pay rate:
initailly $205/hour Majority of patients: Forensic component Scope of Work Studies, evaluates, diagnoses, and treats diseases/disorders of the mind in accord with the standard of care, Patient's Bill of Rights, TJC standards and legal/judicial mandates. Takes the lead, formulating the treatment plan, which includes the discharge plan and the implementation with other members of the collaborative treatment team in accord with the Patient's Bill of Rights and the standard of care. Complies with judicial mandates in accord with NJ Statutes reflecting The Patient's Bill of Rights, such as the review of the records of patients for prescribing of psychotropic medication, freedom from unnecessary physical restraint and isolation, emergency administration of medication, administration of medication over objection, and so forth. Organizes data concerning patient's families, personal medical and, psychiatric history, onset of symptoms, source of referral, emotional reactions and behavior, and intellectual functions. Is responsible for ensuring that psychiatric treatment is in compliance with TJC standards and other accreditation bodies standards and legal or judicial mandates. Reviews diagnostic and psychological testing to confirm physical and psychiatric diagnoses as indicated including follow-up of results. Examine patients to determine general physical condition. Reviews orders on psychotropic medication according to acceptable medical standards and in accord with the statutes as reflected in the Patient's Bill of Rights and legal/judicial mandates. Recommends and orders laboratory and other special diagnostic tests and evaluates. Determines conditions and extent of mental disorders and formulates a treatment plan and follow-up studies. Treats patients utilizing somatic, group, or milieu therapy, and other psychotherapeutic methods and medications. Serves as an active medical staff member of the institution, eligible to serve as an officer of the organization, and is required to attend regular medical meetings to discuss issues pertinent to medical/psychiatric care of patients. Participates in continuing medical education activities to maintain knowledge/skills required for professional competency to provide the best quality of care to patients. Directs the activities of medical and other personnel engaged in rendering psychiatric treatment to patients. Writes up and presents at staff conferences data on patients for diagnoses, treatments, and disposition. Provides appropriate and timely reports and testifies in civil commitment hearings. Evaluates and provides appropriate and timely reports and testifies in judicial reviews of insanity acquittees. Evaluates and provides appropriate and timely reports and testifies in judicial reviews related to the patient's fitness to proceed to trial. Evaluates and provides appropriate and timely reports and testifies in judicial reviews related to the patient's need for guardianship. Evaluates and provides appropriate and timely reports and testifies in judicial reviews related to sexually violent predator status (Applies to Psychiatrists employed at the Special Treatment Unit). Makes required rounds and inspections. Maintains complete/adequate case records and renders periodic and incidental reports. Will comply with all Medicare/ Medicaid enrollment applications for reassignment of benefits. Will be required to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
