Essential Elements:
Print Brief Description of Position The school psychologist provides for therapeutic and educational services for referred students. The school psychologist provides services as a member of School Appraisal Teams at each school which he/she serves, and participates as required in the District's Educational Assessment Service. Duties and Responsibilities The outcomes of a school psychologist's job performance will be as follows: 1. The school psychologist will have consulted with the school administrator concerning appropriate learning objectives for identified exceptional children. 2. The school psychologist will have participated with other School Appraisal Team members in the planning of developmental and remedial programs for exceptional children. 3. The school psychologist will have participated in the development of programs for the integration of exceptional children into the regular classroom. 4. The school psychologist will have assisted classroom teachers in the development and implementation of classroom methods and procedures designed to facilitate pupil learning and to overcome learning and behavior disorders. 5. The school psychologist will have assisted parents in understanding the learning and adjustment processes of children. 6. The school psychologist will have consulted with community agencies and private practice therapists concerning pupils who are being served by such agencies and therapists. 7. The school psychologist will have prepared psycho-educational assessments as appropriate, for students referred to the Educational Assessment Service. 8. The school psychologist will have participated in recommendations for remediation or placement and periodic reevaluation of children referred for psychological services. 9. The school psychologist will have provided psychological counseling and other therapeutic or educational services to parents and children as appropriate. 10. The school psychologist will have participated in professional and community based activities which enhance his professional growth and provide liaison between school and community. 11. Objectives based on the needs of the program will have been established. 12. Accomplished objectives will be evident with supporting data and the reasons for not accomplishing established objectives will be evident. Supervised by the Director of Special Programs.
