- Full-time Under moderate supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Public Health Nurse performs duties related to grant specific and other public health programs that focus predominately on preventive-level services in multiple settings including clinics, homes, and schools.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Performs all nursing duties for the WIC program as described in the program manual per contract; 2. Performs all nursing duties for Immunization/lead programs; 3. Documents time & activity on the Cornerstone system (state of IL electronic data system); 4. Performs all duties for Family Case Management programs as described in the program manual per contract; 5. May provide educational programs upon request to area residents, schools and other community groups; 6. Prepares assigned reports, i.e. monthly nursing report, Local Health Protection Grant report, Communicable Disease report, WIC/FCM reports, and gives to supervisor for review; 7. Serves as liaison with hospital and schools for communicable disease information and follow-up, provides advice for infection control in accordance with guidelines. 8. Works in clinical settings and outreach settings to outlying areas as assigned; 9. Performs home visits to clients in accordance with program specifications; 10. Counsels patients as needed on health and safety issues; 11. May act as a liaison and advocate for the client in referral to other services provided by community/area partners; 12. Investigate and follow-up on all reportable communicable diseases including control of case and control of contacts per guidelines. 13. Assists with emergency functions as assigned 13. Performs other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience The Public Health Nurse is required to have graduated from an approved preparatory program from an accredited institution, and hold a License within the state of Illinois. Two (2) years of experience is preferred. Knowledge of public health principles preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. Must have a valid driver's license, and car insurance. 2. Must be able to comprehend and act upon detailed written and oral instructions. 3. Must be able to work under the pressure of deadlines; 4. Must be able to work alongside others without divulging confidences of fellow employees, or confidential information. 5. Excellent oral and written communication skills. 6. Must have good computer skills. 7. Thorough knowledge of approved principles and practices of nursing care. 8. Thorough knowledge and practice of medical ethics. 9. Thorough knowledge of the process of sterilization and disinfection and of safe methods for the handling of contaminated hazardous materials. 10. The ability to work with individuals from diverse populations. 11. The ability to keep accurate and adequate records. 12. Must be trained in CPR. If the candidate is not trained at time of employment, training will be provided within a reasonable time by the employer.WORKING CONDITIONS
1. This is an exempt position. 2.Working environment:
Christian County Health Department offices, outreach sites. 3.Hours of work:
8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a one-hour lunch break (35 hours per week) and other hours as assigned for special clinics. The position may be part or full time depending upon work demands. 4.Travel:
Must travel in automobile by self and have a valid driver's license. 5.Work space:
Office, lab, clinic. 6. Christian County Christian County requires residency for all employees, but this requirement may be waived under certain circumstances. 7. This position will involve potential exposure to disease agents including bloodborne pathogens and will involve working with sharp objects. The position is covered under the agency's Exposure Control Plan.PHYSICAL ASPECTS
