Aug 26, 2026 Job Description Public Safety CTE Instructor (Grades 9-12) Leominster Public Schools Center for Technical Education Innovation (CTEi) Job Summary The Center for Technical Education Innovation (CTEi) is seeking a qualified Vocational Teacher for our new Public Safety CTE program. This instructor will deliver comprehensive training in law enforcement, firefighting, and emergency telecommunications. The successful candidate will guide students through the technical, legal, and ethical foundations of public safety, preparing them for immediate certification and entry into essential first-responder roles. Key Responsibilities
Integrated Instruction:
Deliver a rigorous curriculum covering the role of public safety in society, constitutional law foundations, and the structure of the criminal justice system.
Tactical & Operational Training:
Facilitate hands-on training in firefighting operations, search and rescue, investigative procedures, and law enforcement defensive tactics.
Emergency Communications:
Provide instruction in emergency telecommunications, including call prioritization, dispatching for fire/EMS/police, and the use of Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) software.
Safety & Compliance:
Implement and enforce safety standards according to OSHA and NFPA guidelines, specifically focusing on the safe use of specialized PPE like SCBA and tactical gear.
Credential Management:
Prepare students for and provide the opportunity to achieve essential industry-recognized credentials.
Professional Readiness:
Integrate employability skills, digital literacy, and wellness strategies to address the physical and mental demands of public safety careers. Skills & Qualifications Required Professional Expertise
Public Safety Mastery:
Demonstrated knowledge across the "Public Safety Triple Threat": Fire Services, Law Enforcement, and Emergency Dispatch.
Legal & Ethical Literacy:
Proficiency in applying Constitutional Amendments (1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th) and the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics to real-world scenarios.
Incident Command:
Practical experience with the Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) protocols. Qualifications for instructor: Three to five years of full-time experience in safety and health. Ability to obtain Massachusetts Vocational Tech Teaching License via exams and MTEL literacy score. Essential Credentials of Value to Facilitate The instructor must prepare students for the following:
Safety:
OSHA 10 - General Industry.
Emergency Care:
Heartsaver First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (American Heart Association).
Communications:
Telecommunicator Certification (Commonwealth of Massachusetts).
Supplemental Opportunities:
APCO/IAED
Emergency Medical, Fire, and Police Dispatch certifications. Core Competencies & Skills Students must be trained in these critical areas as outlined in the CTE framework:
Safety Practices:
Identifying electrical hazards, hazardous materials containment, and ergonomic lifting techniques.
Emergency Response:
CPR, bleeding control, and scene safety assessment.
Investigation:
Proper crime scene management, chain of custody, and forensic evidence collection.
Interpersonal Dynamics:
De-escalation strategies, cultural competency, and trauma-informed interviewing.
Technological Literacy:
Use of
GPS, GIS
