Public Works Assistant Director

Position Summary This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position with benefits. Pay is set at Non-Union Grade 32, DOE. The Public Works Assistant Director assists in planning, directing, and coordinating the operations of the Public Works Department, including water and wastewater utilities, streets, sanitation, facilities maintenance, cemetery operations, and related infrastructure systems. This position supports the Public Works Director in departmental leadership, supervision of staff, project coordination, budgeting, regulatory compliance, and emergency response operations. The position may serve as Acting Public Works Director in the Director's absence. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, public administration, management, business, or a related field preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in Public Works or a related field. Supervisory or management experience preferred Valid Alaska Driver's License required Ability to work in both office and field environments and respond to after-hours emergencies and operational callouts as needed.
