- Classification The Town of Astatula is seeking a dependable, motivated, and skilled individual to join the Public Works Department as a General Laborer / Maintenance Technician.
- Essential Functions The following duties are representative of the position and are not intended to be all-inclusive. Additional duties may be assigned as needed by the Town.
- Performs general labor and maintenance duties on Town-owned property, parks, rights-of-way, buildings, and infrastructure.
- Mows, trims, edges, weeds, and maintains landscaped areas and Town grounds.
- Operates and maintains landscaping and maintenance equipment including zero-turn mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, blowers, pumps, generators, and power tools.
- Assists with automotive maintenance and repair of Town vehicles and equipment, including oil changes, filters, brakes, batteries, belts, hoses, lighting systems, and preventative maintenance.
- Performs machine and equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on pumps, motors, mechanical systems, and maintenance equipment.
- Assists with plumbing repairs including toilets, sinks, valves, water lines, irrigation systems, and minor pipe repairs.
- Assists with electrical maintenance including lighting replacement, switches, outlets, breakers, and troubleshooting minor electrical issues.
- Performs pressure washing, painting, cleaning, and routine facility maintenance.
- Assists with road maintenance, pothole repair, signage installation, drainage maintenance, and concrete/asphalt repairs.
- Removes trash, debris, vegetation, and storm-related materials from Town property and rights-of-way.
- Maintains and cleans Town facilities, restrooms, and public areas.
- Loads, unloads, and transports tools, equipment, and materials.
- Responds to emergency operations and storm recovery efforts as required.
- Maintains a safe and organized work environment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in public works, construction, landscaping, automotive maintenance, mechanical repair, or related field preferred.
- Valid Florida Driver License required.
- CDL License preferred but not required.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, landscaping equipment, and light to medium duty equipment.
- Working knowledge of automotive systems, plumbing, electrical systems, and general maintenance practices preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, or emergency operations if required.
- Physical Requirements This position requires heavy physical labor and outdoor work in various weather conditions. Duties may include lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling materials weighing up to 80-100 pounds. Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, and working around machinery and equipment is required.
- Environmental Conditions Work is performed indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to:
- Extreme heat, humidity, rain, and cold weather
- Noise, vibration, dust, fumes, and odors
- Moving machinery and vehicles
- Chemicals, fuels, oils, and cleaning products
- Uneven terrain and hazardous conditions
