Purchasing Manager The Purchasing Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the procurement processes within the construction industry, ensuring that all materials are ordered efficiently and effectively prior to project initiation. This position involves close collaboration with project managers and engineers to negotiate terms and manage vendor relationships. The Purchasing Manager is responsible for maintaining compliance with union requirements, which can present unique challenges. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in electrical construction procurement and demonstrate exceptional leadership skills to guide a team. This role requires a proactive approach to ensure materials are available when needed, thereby supporting project timelines and operational success.Salary Range:
$90,000 - $100,000 /Year DOE Purchasing Manager Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage the daily operations and workflow of the Purchasing Department Supervise, train, support, and evaluate Purchasing Agents and purchasing support staff Oversee the purchase of construction materials and rental of equipment/tools for all active projects Manage inventory planning and forecasting to ensure project material availability while minimizing delays and excess inventory Coordinate with Project Managers and Field Leadmen regarding manpower changes, project schedules, material requirements, and operational needs Oversee the solicitation of vendor quotations and negotiate pricing, lead times, and purchasing terms with suppliers and subcontractors Develop and maintain strong working relationships with vendors, suppliers, field personnel, Project Managers, and internal departments Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost savings, operational efficiencies, and vendor performance enhancement Participate in operational planning meetings and provide updates regarding purchasing activity, inventory concerns, manpower coordination, and procurement timelinesPurchasing Manager Requirements:
5+ years of experience in electrical or construction procurement specifically for the commercial electrical construction industry Basic Excel proficiency and general technological aptitude Experience in a construction, utility, or tree trimming company is required High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certifications in purchasing, construction/electrical management, business administration, or related field is preferred Prior supervisory or management experience with at least 1-2 direct reports is preferred Electrical installation experience is required Extensive knowledge of electrical equipment, construction materials, inventory management, and procurement operations Experience managing vendor relationships, subcontractors, and supplier negotiations Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification is preferred Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record are required for operation of company vehicles Experience working in a union construction environment is preferred Bilingual is preferredBenefits:
