Position Summary As a Range Safety Officer (RSO), you will play a key role in maintaining safe firearm handling and range operations while delivering excellent customer interaction and support. This position involves active supervision of shooters on the range, enforcing safety rules, assisting customers, maintaining the property, and helping ensure the overall range experience reflects the standards and professionalism of Dietz Gun Shop & Range. This is an active, hands-on position that includes both customer-facing responsibilities and outdoor range/property maintenance work. ResponsibilitiesRange Safety & Supervision Monitor all shooting activities to ensure safe firearm handling and compliance with posted range rules Maintain awareness of customer behavior and intervene professionally when safety concerns arise Assist with cease fires, range calls, and overall flow of shooting activities Help create a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for all guests Customer Interaction Provide safety briefings and answer customer questions regarding range procedures Assist new shooters in understanding range etiquette and expectations Maintain a professional, approachable, and helpful attitude with customers and coworkers Emergency Response Respond quickly and calmly to emergencies or unsafe situations Administer basic first aid when necessary and coordinate with emergency responders if required Document incidents and communicate concerns to management Range & Property Maintenance Assist with daily upkeep of the range and property, including: Brass and trash pickup Cleaning shooting areas Target area maintenance Mowing and weed-eating General property cleanup and organization Operate landscaping and maintenance equipment safely Team & Operations Support Assist with general operational tasks as needed Support special events, matches, or busy weekends Be comfortable appearing in photos or videos for social media, marketing, or promotional content QualificationsPreferred Experience Prior firearms handling experience strongly preferred Previous experience working at a shooting range, outdoor facility, customer service role, or similar environment is a plus NRA Range Safety Officer certification preferred Certification If not currently certified, training may be provided for the right candidate to obtain NRA RSO certification Skills & Traits Strong communication and interpersonal skills Calm, professional demeanor under pressure Situational awareness and attention to detail Dependable, self-motivated, and team-oriented Comfortable enforcing rules respectfully and professionally Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods outdoors Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs Comfortable operating landscaping tools and maintenance equipment Ability to work on uneven terrain and in varying outdoor conditions Working Conditions This is primarily an outdoor position and includes exposure to: Loud noise from firearms Heat, cold, sun, wind, dust, and changing weather conditions Physically active work environments Schedules will include weekends and may occasionally include evenings, holidays, or special events depending on range operations. Employees are required to wear appropriate PPE while on the range, including: Eye protection Hearing protection Closed-toe shoes Additional protective equipment when appropriate This role may include physical labor such as lifting, bending, lawn equipment operation, and general maintenance work.
