Primary Job Function:
The Reynoldsburg City Schools' In-School Restriction (ISR) Room Educational Paraprofessional provides structured behavioral, instructional, and supervisory support to students assigned to the In-School Restriction (ISR) program, including students with and without Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Under the direction of licensed staff—including certificated teachers, intervention specialists, administrators, and related service personnel—this position implements behavior supports under the direction of licensed staff and supports school-wide behavior expectations, IEP accommodations, and established Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). This role assists with student supervision, academic coordination, behavior monitoring, and documentation while maintaining a safe, orderly, and supportive learning environment. The ISR Educational Paraprofessional assists with documentation and communication, but does not independently design, modify, or determine behavioral or instructional interventions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Licensure:
Valid State of Ohio Educational Aide Permit.
ESEA Designation:
A valid ESEA (Highly Qualified) credential is required for all positions within Title I Elementary buildings (requires Associate Degree, 48+ semester hours, or a passing score of 456+ on the ParaPro Assessment).
Compliance:
Successful completion of
BCI & FBI
criminal background checks.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting students with behavioral, social-emotional, or special education needs Experience working in alternative learning environments, behavior rooms, or structured support setting Current certification in a state-approved crisis management system (e.g., CPI, Safety-Care, PCM) Registered Behavior Technician certification

Instructional Support & Academic Coordination Assists teachers and administrators in coordinating and supervising academic work for students assigned to ISR Supports students in completing classroom assignments provided by certificated staff Provides additional structured activities as directed by licensed staff when assigned work is completed Serves as a liaison between classroom teachers and students by obtaining, distributing, and returning assignments Ensures instructional materials, technology, and supplies are available In-School Restriction (ISR) Program Responsibilities Provides continuous supervision of students assigned to ISR Maintains a structured, orderly, and distraction-free learning environment Reinforces school rules, expectations, and behavior standards Explains ISR expectations and purpose in an age-appropriate, supportive manner Monitors student behavior and engagement throughout the ISR placement Maintains accurate attendance records, behavior logs, and daily documentation Reports safety concerns, policy violations, or significant behavioral incidents to administrators Escorts and supervises students during transitions as assigned Behavioral Intervention & Student Support Implements behavior supports and approved Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) under the direction of licensed staff Uses consistent reinforcement, redirection, and de-escalation strategies as trained Collects and documents behavioral data as directed Maintains a calm, professional demeanor during challenging situations Uses district-approved nonviolent crisis intervention techniques to ensure student and staff safety Supports the development of student self-regulation and accountability skills Student Care Support (As Assigned) Supports students in the safe use of assigned adaptive equipment as trained and directed by licensed staff Assists with basic student care needs in emergency or short-term situations as directed Does not provide medical care or independently manage medications Professional Conduct & Communication Maintains professionalism, punctuality, and reliability Protects student confidentiality in compliance with FERPA and applicable privacy laws Communicates regularly with administrators, teachers, and support staff Assists with documentation and communication related to student behavior and progress Performs other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Basic academic content and school procedures School discipline frameworks and confidentiality requirements General behavior support strategies Skilled in: Behavioral redirection and de-escalation Accurate observation and documentation Verbal and written communication Ability to: Supervise students in structured and alternative learning environments Follow established behavior plans and staff direction Respond calmly to challenging behaviors Build positive working relationships with students and staff

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee must be able to sit, stand, or transition from the floor rapidly and move around for extended periods. The employee must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry over 25 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds on occasion.
Working Conditions:
Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue is expected. The employee will frequently interact with children exhibiting unruly or aggressive behaviors and must work in high-sensory environments (loud noises, bright lights).
