Job Title:
R D Systems Engineer - Advanced Cardiac Mapping Technologies Job Description This R D Systems Engineer role sits on the Electrophysiology Systems Engineering team and focuses on delivering the next generation of advanced cardiac mapping technologies. You will lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system architecture, analyze system performance, and drive system integration for highly complex hardware, software, and signal-processing-based medical devices. From early concept through product launch, you will play a key role in shaping technical and business strategy, translating clinical and user needs into robust design requirements, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory standards. Responsibilities Contribute to the technical and business strategy at the core team level for major system-level programs, applying a solid understanding of the software development lifecycle. Use multidisciplinary engineering knowledge to design, develop, and troubleshoot new products focused on cardiac mapping and ablation. Provide systems engineering leadership and take ownership for overall project success from concept phase through product launch. Collaborate with Product Marketing, Clinical Engineering, and clinical experts to translate user and business needs into clear, testable design input requirements. Communicate effectively with sr leadership through technical presentations, status updates, and program reviews. Lead project-level system architecture and system behavior definition activities, including use case modeling and other appropriate systems engineering tools. Define and refine systems and product requirements to ensure safe, effective, and reliable device performance. Lead cross-functional working groups to solve complex technical problems, mitigate risks, and develop strategies to overcome project challenges. Plan, manage, and report on systems integration activities, including root cause analysis and development of robust technical solutions. Provide input into technology and product roadmaps to guide future generations of cardiac mapping and ablation systems. Act as a strong team player while also leading cross-functional teams to resolve issues and meet budget and schedule commitments. Foster a positive, collaborative culture among technical teams while addressing challenging engineering problems. Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and supporting their professional development. Ensure compliance with internal procedures and documentation requirements, as well as applicable FDA, ISO, and other regulatory standards for medical devices. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. Approximately 10 years of experience developing highly complex systems that integrate electrical hardware, software, and signal processing. Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and its application to complex system-level programs. Demonstrated ability to solve complex engineering problems in a multidisciplinary environment. Proven experience leveraging and engaging cross-functional team members to accomplish project goals. Ability to provide technical leadership and ownership for projects from concept through launch. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels of the organization. Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment. Ability to multitask, prioritize work, and meet deadlines in a timely manner. Strong organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail. Experience in software engineering sufficient to participate in and guide software-related aspects of system development. Additional Skills & Qualifications Master's degree in Engineering and/or Science, which may substitute for up to 2 years of engineering experience. At least 3 years of experience specifically as a Systems Engineer. Medical device industry experience, ideally supporting cardiac mapping and/or ablation systems. Experience working within a broader enterprise or cross-division business unit model. Familiarity with electrical hardware regulations and standards relevant to medical devices. Experience managing one or more direct reports, including coaching and performance guidance. Experience mentoring junior engineers and supporting their technical growth. Experience in signal processing, electrophysiology, or related domains is beneficial. Work Environment This role operates in a highly collaborative R D and systems engineering environment focused on advanced electrophysiology and cardiac mapping technologies. You will work closely with cross-functional teams that may include hardware, software, clinical, quality, and marketing professionals, often coordinating efforts across different business units. The work is fast-paced and project-driven, with a strong emphasis on meeting schedule and budget commitments while maintaining high quality and regulatory compliance. You can expect to use modern engineering tools for system architecture, use case modeling, system behavior definition, and root cause analysis. Documentation and adherence to FDA, ISO, and other regulatory standards are integral to daily activities. The position typically follows standard business hours with flexibility required at times to support critical project milestones, technical reviews, and cross-functional meetings. The dress code is generally business casual, with appropriate professional attire for executive presentations, audits, or customer and clinical stakeholder interactions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Little Canada, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $57.00/hr.
