Job Description

We are seeking a hands-on Research & Development Technician to serve as the primary build resource for our R&D engineering team. This role is responsible for turning concepts into functional prototypes through fabrication, assembly, and real-time problem solving. You will operate in a fast-paced, iterative environment where designs evolve quickly and builds often begin with incomplete information. Success in this role requires strong craftsman-ship, sound judgment, and the ability to bridge engineering intent to physical reality. What Success Looks Like
  • Rapidly translate concepts, CAD models, and sketches into working prototypes
  • Execute builds independently, even when designs are incomplete or evolving
  • Improve designs during fabrication through practical, real-world feedback
  • Deliver high-quality workmanship while maintaining urgency
  • Act as a trusted partner to engineering during iterative development Key Responsibilities Prototype Fabrication & Developmen t
  • Fabricate and modify prototype components using sheet metal processes (cutting, forming, welding)
  • Interpret drawings, CAD models, and sketches to build functional prototypes
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to iterate designs quickly
  • Recommend improvements for manufacturability, durability, and performance Shop & Equipment Operation
  • Safely operate shop equipment including press brakes, forming tools, MIG/TIG welding, manual mill (lathe a plus), ironworker, grinders, and cut-off saws
  • Select appropriate tools, materials, and fabrication methods for each build
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment Assembly & Integration
  • Assemble mechanical systems and subassemblies
  • Support fit-up, alignment, and functional testing
  • Troubleshoot, modify, and rework components as part of the development cycle Electrical Support (as needed / growth opportunity)
  • Assist with basic electrical tasks including wire crimping, harness assembly, routing, and basic diagnostics
  • Grow into light electrical troubleshooting and integration over time Other duties as assigned Qualifications Required
  • 3+ years of hands-on fabrication or prototype build experience
  • Strong sheet metal fabrication and welding skills
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
  • High mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving R&D environment Preferred
  • Experience in prototype, R&D, or custom equipment environments
  • Familiarity with manual machining (mill and/or lathe)
  • Basic electrical knowledge (wiring, crimping, troubleshooting)
  • Experience assembling mechanical systems or equipment Who You Are

$65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
