Job Description

Records Management Clerk - York County Detention Center York County Government SC Posted Date 4/26/2026 Description The York County Sheriff's Office Detention Center is located at the Moss Justice Center. The Detention Center is charged with holding individuals who have been arrested by various law enforcement agencies in York County and held until they post bond, are ordered released by a court, or are transferred to a state institution after court sentencing. In addition, the Detention Center is charged with holding individuals who are sentenced to less than 90 days and/or all sentences through Family Court. The Detention Center also houses inmates for the U.S. Marshal Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcement under an agreement that provides compensation to the county. The purpose of this position is to maintain and ensure the security, confidentiality, and accuracy of all Sheriff's Office records, to retrieve records and information at the request of law enforcement personnel and the public, and to perform clerical and administrative work as required. Projected Salary Range/Pay Grade 108: $17.62 - $21.14 per hour. Salary is determined based on qualifications.
Work Schedule:
Candidate will be required to work twelve-hour shifts to include holiday and weekend shifts. Currently, the day shift runs from 5:30 AM to 6 PM and the night shift from 5:30 PM to 6 AM.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Receives hard copy files of all inmate records; verifies accuracy of records and data entry, scans and indexes documents to create electronic files and maintains the security and confidentiality of records. Prepares reports regarding inmate records. Receives expungement orders and expunges records according to law. Assists in controlling inmate visitation, telephone access and mail distribution. Receives, processes and tracks civil process legal documents. Generates weekly and monthly reports. Issues checks for judgements. Answers Sheriff's Office phone lines. Provides information to civilians and law enforcement personnel. Routes callers to appropriate personnel. Performs related work as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree preferred. Two (2) years of clerical or administrative support experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Certifications and Licenses:
S.C. Notary Public. Valid state driver's license preferred. May require additional professional or technical certifications as deemed necessary by management. Applicants with equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
