Full-time Job Function:
The Recreation Activities Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, and promotion of new and ongoing programs and activities that benefit community residents of all ages by promoting health, wellness and life-long learning.
Essential Functions:
Assists in developing and facilitating a wide range of activities, programs or outings (educational, wellness, fitness and outdoor), employing talented instructors to offer classes. Supports instructors in completing contracts, required paperwork and ensures applicable safety protocols are followed. Maintains up-to-date information on department's website including calendar and event pages. Schedules all facilities (community park and pavilion, community center, etc.) and manages payment processes for the department. Promotes weekly, monthly, and seasonal opportunities through print and digital media. Organizes and maintains departmental materials and equipment. Organizes, directs and implements school vacation day and week camps. Scheduling staff, organizing registration, creating daily schedule, purchasing necessary supplies and all other duties required for the program. Assists at Summer Camp as needed. Assists Director in funding strategies to improve community access to programs. Assists the Director with department events including but not limited to event development, set-up, and support during and after the event. Serves as the volunteer coordinator, fitting volunteers with appropriate positions and ensuring background checks are performed. Follows up with volunteers to ensure positive results for the volunteers and the Town and provides support to volunteers as needed. Has frequent contact with the general public requiring perceptiveness and discretion, while maintaining a cordial, helpful and professional demeanor at all times. Follows safety protocols at all times. Performs other work and takes on assignments and duties as assigned by the Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience in planning, organizing, and leading recreation activities is required; Requires being a self-starter and demonstrate the ability to work independently; Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of community recreation; Familiarity with web publishing platforms and design software Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written; Must pass a background check.
Physical Requirements:
Work requires moderate muscle exertion and/or physical strain such as hiking trails and moving equipment; Work environment involves continued exposure to hazards associated with sporting and other public events; While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear and smell, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with arms and hands. The employee is required to stand, walk and drive; The employee must occasionally life and/or move up to 50 pounds Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception with or without corrective lenses; The employee must hold a valid Vermont Driver's License and must be able to safely operate a vehicle.

This position requires attention to deadlines and interaction with the public, which may cause stress; Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects and responsibilities; Must have the ability to problem solve, demonstrate critical thinking skills, and make good decisions; Must have the ability to handle stressful situations by remaining calm and professional at all times; Must have the ability to receive and apply constructive feedback; Must maintain strong safety awareness.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in the office as well as outdoors in all weather conditions and involves regular exposure to cold, snow, heat, rain and/or dust. A flexible schedule is required in order to support programming and community events with some evenings, weekends and holiday work required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and may sometimes be loud .
Pay Range & Benefits:
This is a 30-hour a week , benefits-eligible position. Compensation will be $23
  • 25 an hour and will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
