The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Recreation Activity Leader in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will organize, coordinate and lead a wide variety of indoor and outdoor recreation activities at City parks, playgrounds and recreation centers. Recreation Activity Leaders may be assigned to: Tots, Pre-K, or Teen programs, playground programs, Berkeley Day Camp or specialty camps, or youth sports. Programs last for approximately three months during the summer. You may also have the opportunity to work special events throughout the year. See the full job description here: governmentjobs.com/careers/berkeley/classspecs/1423207 A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills and abilities for this classification is: Equivalent to graduation from high school and either: 1) Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience leading a variety of athletic and recreation activities; OR 2) Completion of major college coursework leading to a degree in recreation, physical education, group work or a closely related field may be substituted for the above experience on a year-for-year basis; OR 3) Extensive training and/or experience in a specialized field of endeavor such as dance, ceramics, photography or nature study which has occurred over a period of several years and has resulted in an acceptable level of expertise and the ability to impart knowledge of this field to others. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
