Job Description
Edgefield County is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Recreation Assistant. This position is responsible for assisting with indoor and outdoor recreation programs and the operation of the parks and related facilities. Duties consist of planning, assisting, and implementing youth and adult recreational programs for county residents; Attends program board meetings, and evening sporting events to oversee and promote recreation programming and leisure services offered by the county; maintains ball fields, prepares fields for games as necessary; performs grounds maintenance duties as needed, including mowing grass and picking up trash and litter; assist in planning and coordinating, special events and activities such as fundraisers and corporate outings; responds to complaints from the general public; coordinating scheduled maintenance of facilities; petitions individuals and businesses for recreation program sponsorships. A knowledge of the principles and practices of public and recreation administration is required as well as a knowledge of relevant laws, department and safety guidelines, and county codes, policies, and procedures; the knowledge of the federal, state, and local laws, building codes, and safety regulations pertaining to recreation and park facilities; the knowledge of the rules and regulations pertaining to various sports and recreation activities. Skilled in supervision, operating grounds maintenances tools and equipment, planning, organizing, and marketing recreational services, public speaking, interpersonal relations, and oral and written communication are required. Reports to the Recreation Director. Preferred qualifications include a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field, a 2-degree and two years of experience, or four years of experience in youth recreation. Must possess a valid South Carolina's Driver's License. The employer will consider any combination of training and experience providing the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
