Job Description

YOUR FUTURE BEGINS HERE!
Join one of the fastest-growing cities in Arizona and the youngest in Yuma County! Under the close supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the incumbent will provide assistance to Recreation Coordinators with special events, sports leagues, tournaments, and recreation programs. Duties will vary depending on the Division of Parks & Recreation (P&R) the incumbent is assigned. Programs and special events occur throughout the year, and work schedules may vary depending on program need, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: As the Recreation Assistant you will: Perform emergency service by rescue, response, and first aid in all situations throughout the facility as necessary. Monitor patrons utilizing recreation facilities. Identifies and resolves potentially hazardous situations. Exercises diligence in maintaining safety for all members and guests. Provide front-line customer service on the phone or walk-ins in a fast, friendly, and professional manner. Respond to requests for information, complaints, and/or other related issues from the general public. Receive and process recreation program registrations, memberships, and facility reservations, which involves routine bookkeeping activities such as processing refunds, printing membership cards and day passes, processing class transfers, and other related functions. Prepare a variety of paperwork, rosters, reports, and simple statistics related to daily activities. Participate in daily operations of assigned facility, which may include organizing, cleaning, and sanitizing work area and public areas; monitoring and maintaining inventory of supplies. Assist with event day operations, which may include cash handling, beverage and giveaway distribution, and leading community activities. Assist with pre-event and post-event activities, which may include event setup, painting and decorating, purchasing supplies, design and creation of ideas and themes, cleanup and reorganization, props and decoration storage, and monitoring and maintaining inventory of supplies. Perform a variety of clerical activities in support of office operations, which may include inputting information into databases, preparing promotional flyers and related items, answering phones, filing, maintaining a calendar of events, websites, etc. Distribute and collect gaming equipment within applicable facilities, setting up facilities for classes. Perform emergency service by rescue, response, and first aid in all situations throughout the facility as necessary. Assist with instruction of recreation programs, classes, activities, and events. Assist with preparation of sports fields, including painting field lines, watering and grooming infields, and chalking foul lines. May assist with cleaning facilities if needed. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Will possess knowledge of:
Basic principles and techniques of recreational activities. Effective communication skills and customer service practices. Basic First Aid/ CPR. Basic safety procedures related to a recreation facility. Local park rules and regulations.
Will have the ability to:
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, participants, interested groups, and the general public. Communicate effectively with a diverse population. Adapt to different participant needs and weather conditions. Work independently or collaboratively. Understand and interpret recreation policies and procedures when working with citizens or event participants. Understand and follow written departmental policies and procedures. Work varying schedule to include evenings, weekends, and holidays as special events require. Pass an extensive background check.
Will be skilled in:
Use of Microsoft Office Suite-Office 365-(Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, Outlook, Teams, etc.) Performing general arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages. Software used in emergency services and applications, such as the Microsoft Office Suite of Programs, including Excel Spreadsheets.
Education, Training, and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
Licenses and Certifications:
All required licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout employment. First Aid/CPR Certification or must be able to obtain it within 30 days of hire. Fingerprint Clearance Card, Level 1, or the ability to obtain before the first day of employment. A valid Arizona Driver's License at the time of appointment.
Special Requirements:
Residency in the United States and within 25 miles of the City of San Luis.
Desired/ Preferred:
San Luis residency. Bilingual in Spanish. Customer service experience. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and perform repetitive movements of hands or wrists. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unaided,and over 75 pounds with assistance. Employees must be physically capable of operating City vehicles, for job-related purposes, safely. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Mental Demands While performing the duties of this class, an employee uses written and oral communication skills; reads and interprets data, information and documents; analyzes and solves problems; uses math and mathematical reasoning; performs highly detailed work and multiple concurrent tasks; and interacts with colleagues and members of the public, including occasional interactions with dissatisfied individuals. Work Environment The employee works in an office environment where the noise level is usually quiet. Additionally, the employee may work outdoors where the he/she may be exposed to extreme weather conditions such as excessive heat and cold.
