PackageThe salary for this position ranges from $50,000 to $60,000, based on education and experience. Description of Job and Division/Department The MCMUA is hiring a full-time Recycling Special Projects Coordinator and Program Assistant in the Solid Waste Planning Division. Reporting to the District Recycling Coordinator, this role involves collaborating with team members to develop environmental programs and initiatives focused on major long-term projects. Responsibilities include assisting with educational outreach, developing new initiatives aligned with State directives, and providing administrative support for recycling contracts and customer inquiries. The ideal candidate should be able to lead projects independently and apply research and critical thinking skills. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Facilitating communication between the MCMUA and its municipal counterparts, accomplished by activities that include but are not limited to:
Organizing meetings, educational classes, and community outreach with partners.
Creating projects to boost recycling in municipalities.
Developing educational materials like flyers, brochures, and social media content.
Updating website content. Running educational modules on recycling compliance, hazardous waste management, waste reduction, and environmental issues.
Responding to inquiries via phone and email. Supporting updates to the County Solid Waste Management Plan and developing strategies to achieve its goals.
Taking ownership of major initiatives and research projects to address recycling issues and enhance the Recycling Division's capability to tackle new concerns and legislative changes.
Onboarding municipal recycling coordinators (MRCs) and their designees to their roles and educating them on the requirements in the Morris County Solid Waste Management Plan and local ordinances.
Assisting with Municipal Tonnage, Recycling Enhancement Act, and Clean Communities Grant processes, as well as other grant opportunities.
Support budget tracking and assist with purchasing for the Division's projects and initiatives.
Assist in coordinating recycling contracts for municipal, commercial, and institutional customers and serve as the liaison between them and the MCMUA.
Conduct compliance inspections and outreach to multifamily units, government sites, construction locations, institutions, and businesses to promote and maintain recycling efforts.
Supervise interns at MCMUA who are working on various waste reduction projects.
Assisting in the management of the MCMUA's open space program and providing oversight for its stewardship.
Additional responsibilities will be assigned as necessary. Qualifications The applicant should have strong communication and customer service skills, be comfortable speaking publicly on environmental topics, and demonstrate enthusiasm, stamina, and creativity for community engagement. The ability to work independently and collaborate with the MCMUA team is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, WordPress, social media, and other applications is required.
Education and Experience:
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. One year of experience in sustainability or environmental science is preferred, but MCMUA is open to training the candidate in the role. Candidates must also obtain and maintain the Certified Recycling Professional and Clean Communities Coordinator certifications via the Rutgers Office of Continuing Professional Education.Location:
