Duties Description This Research Scientist will:
  • Provide scientific direction for single-cell and spatial genomics initiatives, contributing to experimental design, assay implementation, and integrated multi-omic data analyses.
  • Develop, optimize, and supervise laboratory workflows for single-cell, single-nucleus, and spatial transcriptomic and epigenomic assays, ensuring high-quality and reproducible data generation.
  • Lead development of computational pipelines for large-scale genomics datasets, including scRNA-seq, snRNA-seq, scEpiegenome profiling, long-read sequencing, and spatial omics platforms.
  • Integrate molecular, clinical, and behavioral data to advance translational psychiatry research and support NKI-NYU collaborative programmes.
  • Guide and mentor multidisciplinary teams, including junior laboratory and computational staff, to ensure coordinated delivery of genomics research objectives.
  • Generate rigorous analysis outputs, pilot datasets, and related materials that support manuscripts, presentations, and competitive grant submissions.
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. and seven years of professional research experience in an appropriate field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Active NIH funding as Principal Investigator, with at least one current R01 (or equivalent) grant that has a minimum of two years of remaining support at the time of application.
  • Outstanding publication record in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals in the fields of systems neuroscience, neurodegeneration, or Alzheimer's disease research.
  • Established expertise in in vivo electrophysiology in freely behaving rodents, including multi-electrode or multi-channel recording systems, local field potential analysis, and single-unit physiology.
  • Proven experience with optogenetics and/or chemogenetics for circuit-level manipulation in the context of disease models.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong record of scientific communication including grant writing, manuscripts, and public presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently secure extramural research funding and manage a productive laboratory.
  • Focused research expertise in Alzheimer's disease pathophysiology, with demonstrated experience using transgenic mouse models of amyloid-beta and/or tau pathology.
  • Deep knowledge of the neurobiology of selectively vulnerable brain regions in AD, including the entorhinal cortex, hippocampus, and locus coeruleus, and their interconnected network dysfunction.
  • Experience designing and executing behavioral neuroscience paradigms that measure spatial memory, associative learning, and executive function in rodent disease models.
  • Track record of collaborative research with computational neuroscientists and biomedical engineers, particularly in the context of large-scale neural data analysis and circuit modeling.
  • Prior experience mentoring and developing the careers of postdoctoral researchers and graduate students.
  • Demonstrated engagement with the Alzheimer's disease research community, including participation in NIA or NINDS study sections, collaborative consortia, or advisory roles.
