RESEARCH/LAB TECHNICIAN SR
University of Missouri-Columbia parental leave, paid time off United States, Missouri, Columbia 801 Conley Avenue (Show on map) May 08, 2026 Hiring Department Division of Plant Science & Technology Job Description The primary goal of this position is to provide technical and operational support for the Northern Missouri Soybean Breeding Program. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the success of the program by supporting its daily operations and research activities. This position serves as a key bridge between our team of Research Assistants and senior leadership, including the Senior Research Specialist, Research Lab Manager, and Research Scientist, contributing to the smooth execution of the soybean breeding program's day-to-day functions.
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be responsible for supporting essential research and field activities, including: Supporting the cross-hybridization program focused on cultivar development and genetic research Assisting with seed processing, data collection, and post-harvest processing Assisting with planting and maintaining detailed note taking Performing weed removal, harvesting, and plant tissue collection for DNA extraction Performing other job-related duties as assigned Shift Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Preferred Qualifications Basic understanding of plant genetics, a breeding cycle, and proficient in information management systems such as Microsoft Office. 2-3 years of plant breeding research operation experience. Experience with a soybean cross-hybridization program focused on cultivar development and genetic research is preferred. Experience with equipment and protocols for a seed processing lab for field-based research experiments including packaging seed and maintaining the genetic integrity of populations in a large breeding program is also preferred. Experience in utilizing off-season winter nurseries for breeding programs is also preferred. Anticipated Hiring Range The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $15.10-$26.40 hourly. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
