Job Description

THE WRITERS' COLONY AT DAIRY HOLLOW
Eureka Springs, Arkansas
RESIDENCY & EVENTS COORDINATOR
Part-Time ~25 hrs/week $16-$18/hour Reports to Executive Director A New Chapter at Dairy Hollow The Writers' Colony at Dairy Hollow has spent nearly three decades offering writers something rare: time, space, and a community that believes their work matters. We're proud of that legacy—and we're building on it. WCDH is entering an exciting new chapter, deepening our roots in the Eureka Springs community, expanding our programming, and finding fresh ways to connect writers with the audiences and partners who need them most. The person who steps into this role won't just be filling a position—they'll help shape what comes next. The Role This position sits at the heart of everything we do. You'll be the first voice a new resident hears and the steady hand behind our public events. One week might look like welcoming an incoming writer, coordinating a fellowship application review, and helping set up for a community reading at a local Eureka Springs venue. The next might include following up with a Northwest Arkansas arts partner, processing a supply order, and jumping in wherever the team needs an extra hand—because at WCDH, everyone pitches in. That's just how a small, close-knit organization works, and it's one of the things that makes this place special. What You'll Do Residency & Fellowship Administration Be the warm, reliable point of contact for resident writers—from first inquiry through check-out Manage applications, scheduling, agreements, orientation, and database records Coordinate the fellowship program: outreach, judge recruitment, applicant tracking, and results distribution Support alumni engagement and help maintain the community WCDH has built over the years Uphold residency policies with clarity and care, addressing issues in partnership with the Executive Director Events & Workshops Plan and execute literary workshops, readings, open houses, and community events from concept to cleanup Handle logistics: venues, vendors, registration, day-of coordination, volunteer support, and post-event follow-up Maintain an events calendar and assist with promotion through social media, email, and community outreach Help cultivate relationships with NWA partners—libraries, schools, arts orgs, and local businesses—that extend WCDH's reach General Operations & Administrative Support Keep the day-to-day running smoothly: correspondence, record keeping, scheduling, supply orders, and light financial tracking Support grant documentation and reporting as directed by the Executive Director Pitch in wherever needed—this is a team that helps each other, whether that's reviewing applications during a busy season or tidying the common spaces so residents feel at home Who You Are You don't have to check every box on this list—we mean that. What matters most is that you're genuinely excited about this work and willing to learn the rest. This role has room to grow, and we want the right person to help shape it over time. You're the kind of person who gets things done without needing a lot of fanfare. You're organized, dependable, and warm with people—whether you're talking to a first-time resident, a longtime donor, a board member, or a community volunteer. You know how to hold a boundary with kindness: saying "here's what we can do" instead of just "no," and following through on what you promise. You're patient with people and process, but you also know when to gently redirect. You find satisfaction in the behind-the-scenes work that makes an experience feel effortless for someone else.
What We're Looking For Required:
Experience in event coordination, program administration, nonprofit work, or a related field; strong organizational and communication skills; comfort with databases and basic tech tools; warm, professional people skills; availability for occasional evenings/weekends (1-2x/month).
A plus:
Familiarity with the NWA nonprofit or arts community; experience with social media content, Canva, or event registration platforms; budget tracking; a love of literature and the written word. How to Apply Send a cover letter, résumé, and two to three references to [director@writerscolony.org]. In your cover letter, tell us what draws you to WCDH and a little about how you work—we read every word. If you're on the fence because you don't meet every qualification, please apply anyway. We're hiring for character and curiosity as much as credentials, and we're committed to supporting the right person's growth in this role. WCDH is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis. 515 Spring Street Eureka Springs, AR 72632 writerscolony.org
