GPI is seeking a Resident Engineer with strong traffic control experience to support transportation projects in the Cairo, Illinois area. This role is ideal for a seasoned construction professional who can oversee field operations, ensure compliance, and serve as the owner's on-site representative. For more information, visit: www.gpinet.com Key Responsibilities Act as the primary on-site representative for transportation construction projects Oversee contractor performance, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with plans and specifications Review and enforce traffic control plans (MOT) and ensure compliance with IDOT standards Coordinate with contractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders Monitor construction activities, quantities, and progress Review daily reports, change orders, RFIs, and pay applications Ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality standards Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field (preferred) Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain 5+ years of experience in transportation construction engineering and inspection Proven experience with traffic control/maintenance of traffic (MOT) Strong knowledge of IDOT standards and procedures Excellent communication and leadership skills Preferred Experience Roadway, bridge, or highway construction projects Experience working as a Resident Engineer or Lead Inspector Familiarity with project documentation and reporting systems Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration Possess a personal vehicle for use on or around a job site Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members Able to stand for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hours Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.) Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working Able to move equipment or inspection specimens weighing up to 50 pounds GPI offers excellent benefits, including a 401(k) plan, ESOP, medical/dental/vision plans, paid time off, and more.
