Job Description

Job Description Manage/supervise the custody and security operations of a housing unit(s), directing the activities of the Housing Unit Sergeant, ARUS and Prison Counselor. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to: Monitoring job performance of subordinate supervisory and unit custody staff; prisoner movement; property control; housekeeping standards; fire safety regulations; supervision and administration of unit prisoner programs/activities; the management of housing unit budgets; prisoner minor misconduct disciplinary process; and staff compliance with post orders. Experience Resident Unit Manager 13 One year of experience equivalent to a Corrections Shift Supervisor 12, Assistant Resident Unit Supervisor 11, Corrections Program Coordinator P11, Prison Counselor P11, Parole Probation Officer P11, Corrections Qualified Mental Health Professional P11, or a Clinical Social Worker P11 or Psychologist P11 in an adult correctional facility. OR Two years equivalent to a Corrections Shift Supervisor 11. OR Three years equivalent to a Corrections Medical Unit Officer E10, Corrections Resident Representative E10, Resident Unit Officer E10, or a Special Alternative Incarceration Officer E10. Alternate Education and Experience Alternate Education and Experience Resident Unit Manager 13 Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and three years of experience equivalent to a Corrections Shift Supervisor 13 or Corrections Security Inspector 13 may be substituted for the education and experience requirements. Additional Requirements and Information The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation. New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training. This is a drug and alcohol test-designated position.
