Residential Camp Counselor / Dorm Parent 48 Main Street, Southborough, MA 01772 $25 an hour

  • Temporary, Part-time, Full-time Overview:
    Join our team as a Residential Camp Counselor and make a positive impact on the lives of campers from around the world from July 12
  • August 7.
Residential Camp Counselors work during its overnight summer camp programs for children ages 10 to 15 years. Counselors directly supervise resident campers, create and maintain a positive residential environment, organize activities, and establish supportive, professional relationships with campers. Counselors are required to live on campus in dorm apartments. There is no charge for the apartment, and meals will be provided in the Dining Room. The regular work schedule is two or three weekdays (12:45 p.m. through 9:45 p.m. with the camp group and then in a passive capacity through 8:00 a.m. the next day) and alternate weekend days. Counselors report to the Director of Summer Residential Life and the Director of Auxiliary Programs.
The Program:
Campers will be taking part in one of the following two academic program. The English Immersion Program at FaySummer will welcome around 60 children from around the world to participate in English as a second language classes, camp activities, enrichment programs, and travel around New England. Residential Camp Counselors will be the familiar face for these children throughout their stay in the US, on Fay School's campus. Counselors will have the opportunity to go on field trips and take part in multiple activities. There will also be an equal amount of fluent English speaking Academic Adventures campers taking part in a very similar camp day and program.
Qualifications:
Candidates must be at least 19 years of age and be at least one year on from graduating high school. A bachelor's degree and previous experience working with children ages 10 to 15 in a residential camp or school setting are preferred. The ability to work independently and as a team member is required. Candidates are expected to be professional and have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities include:
Establishing and maintaining the behavioral expectations and community standards in accordance with the FaySummer Residential Camper Handbook Modeling FaySummer's standards of respect for all members of the community, dress code, good manners, kindness, and behavior, ensuring that campers understand and comply with these community expectations Developing and implementing a program of social and community-building activities and establishing professional and supportive relationships with campers and other members of staff Establishing and maintaining community relationships with the resident campers; being always approachable and available to address individual resident campers' concerns and questions in a timely and supportive manner Providing regular updates to the Director of Auxiliary Programs and the Director of Summer Residential Life about individual student and dorm life issues Understanding FaySummer emergency policies and procedures and providing instruction to campers about these procedures Providing care and safety oversight for all residential campers Being knowledgeable about individual camper needs, including allergies, medications, and special diets Conducting check-in and check-out procedures during move-in and move-out days Reporting any dorm maintenance needs, such as repairs or broken fixtures, to the Director of Summer Residence Life Chaperoning weekend field trips to Boston and other locations in the New England area
