Job Description

Star Community® has been serving adults with developmental disabilities in Washington County for over 50 years. Founded by Richard and Audrey Tebbs, Star began as the Anita Lynn Home in 1970 with the inspired vision to help each person supported to live a fulfilling life. Star is committed to ensuring that every adult, whether at a facility or in the community, is engaged in a meaningful day as they determine it, and each person has the opportunity to pursue a path to competitive integrated employment. Star offers a full range of services including: adult residential services provided in 11 homes to 50+ people; Employment and Meaningful Day Services for approximately 85 people; and Star's Equestrian Center and Therapeutic Farm serving 50+ children and adults weekly through therapeutic and recreational riding activities with disabled and abled riders. Come Join our Team! The Riding Instructor will provide lessons to students. They will work with both the horse and the rider to teach the skills and help them bond as a pair.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED. Instructor certification through CHA or
PATH . 3
years experience teaching beginners to intermediates preferred. Must possess an overall working knowledge of horses, horsemanship, and riding techniques. Must possess a valid driver's license that meets the requirements of the insurance carrier. This position requires the availability for flexible work schedules. Must have the ability to lift and transfer at least 50 lbs. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and the ability to speak and write proficiently in English is required.
Job Duties:
Prepare for lessons, ensuring that the horse is properly prepared, is in good health and capable of participating in the lesson, that the riding equipment is in good repair, and that the physical environment is safe, clean, and free of any hazards. Instruct and lead lessons and horsemanship activities following standards and lesson plans that build horsemanship and independent skills. Communicate with the Lead instructor regarding volunteer and horse needs for lessons. Get horses from field for your lessons. Maintain a safe program environment for participants, horses and volunteers. Communicate with riders, parents and volunteer in a positive, respectful manner. Direct volunteers in a positive, respectful manner before, during, and after lessons. Assist in volunteer training as needed. Assist in maintaining clean, orderly stable and equipment. Maintain all required logs, assessments, and paperwork for each rider and lesson. Assist in medical and training issues with horses as needed. Attend continuing education events and/or riding lessons as assigned. Attend monthly staff meetings as scheduled. Work to support and exemplify the values, vision and mission of Star Community. Successfully complete in-service requirements and meet renewal schedules. Will perform other duties as assigned.
